Astrological Association

THE CARD’S STORY BY: TARA FLY

I chose the African water goddess, Yemoja, to represent the Ace of Cups because she is the “source of all waters”. From the shell cupped in her hands, she is pouring forth the waters of all life. As the Ace of Cups is symbolic of compassion and emotional love, including nurturing maternal love, Yemoja is known as “the Mother of all” and is protective over her children. She is often depicted as a mermaid, and I’ve given her a peacock-patterned tail as they are sacred to her.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

Against a beautiful sunrise, the goddess Yemoja sits by the ocean, a conch shell in her hands. Just as the sun brings all light to the world, she is bringing life, in the form of fertile waters. A new journey is opening up to you, offering you the chance of great personal fulfilment and contentment… will you take the opportunity before you? If you’re willing and ready, then allow yourself to be compassionate and generous, open and receptive, both spiritually and emotionally.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: YEMOJA

Yemoja is a goddess of the ocean in African mythology, in particular, the creator goddess of the Yoruba religion. She is considered to be the mother of all of the Orisha, and as such she is a patron, or protector of women, especially of pregnant women. Th e combination of these two associations, given that the Ace of Cups sometimes foretells pregnancy made her an ideal character for this card

THE CARD’S STORY BY: KEN MEYER JR.

When I started to search for a myth that struck me, I thought it was going to be an uphill battle. But, I got very lucky when I came upon the African Akan world building myth of Adu Ogyinae, first man to emerge to the surface of the earth. It also said that all humans used to live deep underground, until one day, seven men, five women, a dog and leopard crawled up through a huge hole left by a giant worm. The fact that he was the leader and organizer worked for the card. And it also gave me a good visual place to start from.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

Adu Ogyinae stands above ground for the first time in his life. He’s made it. It was a slow, arduous task, leading and coaxing his people to the surface, but it was worth it. Now he and his people can live in the warmth of the sun, enjoying a new life. This is not a time to let yourself be distracted, or procrastinate any longer. Crunch time is here, and you need to get it done. So knuckle down and finish the job. Put away your phone, shut down social media, and really dig into the task at hand. No, it’s not always fun or glamorous, but it will be worth it – you are responsible for your own success, no one is just going to hand it to you! The Knight of Pentacles can represent a dedicated, responsible person in your life at currently – someone who never gives up. A bit of a perfectionist, this person gets everything done, taking pride in completing each and every task.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: ADU OGYINAE

Adu Ogyinae is a character in Akan mythology, responsible for guiding his people out of the earth, where they could begin a life on the surface. According to the legend, humans lived underground, until one day, Adu Ogyinae lead his tribe out through a tunnel left by a burrowing monstrous worm. He was a responsible out-rider who became their leader, organising them and protecting till his death. Th e chivalrous, reliable, nature of this fi gure makes him an appropriate Knight.

Featured Card of the Day – Page of Wands – 78 Tarot Mythical

Posted on Updated on

Keywords

Enthusiasm, impulse, ambition, creativity

Element

Fire

Astrological Association

Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

THE CARD’S STORY BY: MARLON TEUNISSEN

The page of wands stands for enthusiasm, exploration, discovery, and a free spirit. I tried to incorporate all these keywords into my artwork. The artworks depicts a young, free-spirited Merlin the wizard who with all his knowledge and enthusiasm is travelling the mysterious lands, hoping to make some magical discoveries. With him at the end of his wand, sits his only companion, the salamander. A mythical creature that is associated with fire and transformation. A metaphor for a dragon of sorts? A very tiny one at that.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

Full of youthful energy and enthusiasm, Merlin is journeying to find new challenges and tests for his skill. He is talented, he knows, but just how far could he go? Magic swirling around him as pure power, he is eager to find out… Keep your eyes open for new opportunities and challenges. For that flash of inspiration that teases your creative spirit and makes you restless to begin a fun new project. Creative, different, and unusual, you are sure that it will spur you on, allow you to be your true self, and keep you busy in the process! The Page of Wands can be a person around you, someone full of enthusiasm for everything, passionate but sometimes immature, running before they can walk. Someone who wants you to indulge your more adventurous side, encouraging you to throw caution to the winds.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: MERLIN / WIZARD

In Arthurian legend, Merlin was a powerful wizard and shapeshift er, advisor and friend to King Arthur himself. He was multi-talented, with tales also referring to his skills as a bard, and tutor, as well as confi dante and magician. His fame (or infamy) starts with stories of him as a young wizard, aiding King Vortigen in the building of a temple, and foretelling his defeat at the hands of Uther Pendragon (father to Arthur) – who Merlin then allied himself with. Th e power, passion and wide-reaching skills and abilities of Merlin make him an energetic illustration of this card.
