Keywords

Illusion, Reality, Separation, Self-Sabotage, Self-Deception, Criticism, Conditioning, Healing

Key Phrases

– A conflict between reality and belief
– A time for honesty
– Let go of illusion and pretense
– Face a painful reality
– You are not alone
– Advice and constructive criticism are not a personal attack
– Drop the mask. Reveal your true self
– Forgive others for wearing their masks

Card Meaning

The Five of Air represents a conflict between what is real and what is believed. It addresses a need for honesty, and the courage to let go of a self-deception that is being held onto in order to hide and protect from a painful reality.

This painful reality may be one that we choose to deny, but even so, its influence can still create dissonance in our lives and work in a corrosive manner that gives rise to conflicted thoughts, a desire to avoid and procrastinate, and eventual self-sabotage of our creative endeavors. It can also manifest in a desire to withdraw and separate ourselves from those who love us.

The symptoms to look for are low self-esteem, a disparaging inner voice, and an inability to handle criticism as it only serves to reinforce a low opinion that is already held. Even simple advice and constructive criticism that are offered to help improve or fix something that is in need of further work is perceived to be an attack, and is responded to with hurt and anger. When this happens repeatedly, others may become reluctant to speak up even when there is a real and genuine need. This reluctance is noticed and feeds the anxiety.

If the Five of Air card appears in your reading, it is, in essence, a gentle intervention. Remove the mask and the blindfold from your eyes. Let go of the lie that all is okay and that you are happy, and allow yourself to see that you need to address the thoughts and beliefs that have you thinking poorly of yourself. It is time for you to see and face the inner demons that have you believing that you are not worthy or deserving of success or happiness.

Featured Card of the Day – The Crone – Dreams of Gaia by Ravynne Phelan

Posted on Updated on

Artist: Ravynne Phelan

Website: http://www.RavynnePhelan.com

Keywords

Feminine Power, Fearlessness, Authenticity, Individuality, Independence, New Purpose, Freedom, Shadow Self

Key Phrases

– The woman who understands true nature
– Be aware of your choices
– Be unafraid to walk your path alone
– A life of your own design
– Untapped power and potential
– A fertile and productive future
– A childless state
– Be unbowed and unapologetic
– Respect and cherish your elders
– A direct and forthright approach is needed
– Do what’s necessary not what’s expected
– It is time to be fierce and fight back

Card Meaning

The Crone symbolizes a proud and mature woman, an aging woman who is no longer influenced by a need to reproduce or parental responsibilities. She may be approaching, or have reached, a stage in her life where her menstrual cycles have slowed or ceased, but she is no longer true to the Crone archetype of old that is often depicted by Western society. The nature of the Crone has evolved with the times. She is the wise woman who is like nature – wild, still, passionate, volatile, calm, peaceful, adaptable and flowing, creative and powerful. She is everything she chooses to be. She is a woman who is aware of her choices, and may well have transitioned form Maiden to Crone without feeling any need or desire to be a Mother.

The Crone symbolizes the emergence of a mature woman who sees herself as being in her prime, with many fertile, productive, and creative years ahead of her. She is a woman who embraces her true power and potential.

Featured Card of the Day – 5 of Fire – Dreams of Gaia by Ravynne Phelan

Posted on Updated on

Artist: Ravynne Phelan

Website: http://www.RavynnePhelan.com

Keywords

Rivalry, Competition, Aggression, Bullying, Conflict, Discord, Chaos, Obstacles

Key Phrases

– A time of chaos, conflict or confrontation
– A battle for control or dominance
– A desire for power, influence, or wealth
– Do not judge or condemn others
– Base your concerns in fact
– Avoid pack mentality behavior
– Make no place for bullying’
– Focus on your vision, not what others are doing

Card Meaning

The Five of Fire symbolizes a time of chaos, conflict, or confrontation – either at hand or ahead. Someone may now see themselves or others as a rival or competitor, and may be willing to use ruthless or aggressive measures to come out on top.

Rivalry between people, and a battle for control and dominance, can lead one person to place obstacles in the path of another in order to slow their progress or deter them completely. Why? Because they want to be the one with the power, influence, or potential wealth, and will not allow a competitor to take what they believe to be theirs.

This ugly situation is now often made worse by technology and social media. Rumors can be spread, lies told, and reputations destroyed – and all can be accomplished with almost complete anonymity.

At its extreme, we can see bullying in the modern age as a gladiatorial sport for voyeurs. A victim is thrown to the wolves, while an aggressor sits upon their throne, and spectators scream for blood – following their leader blindly and embracing a pack mentality. But these wolves do not hunt for survival; they hunt for sport and recreation, or simply because another asked them to. All too often, they hide their attacks behind a belief that it is their right to question, and then judge and condemn the life choices of another.

If aggression is motivated by rivalry, the aggressors may declare that their rival has copied or stolen their ideas …ideas that have often been expressed in one form or another countless times before, all over the world, by people who have never met and never will meet. Now, because technology has made the world smaller, and social networks have created connections across the globe, complete strangers can be attacked, simply because someone who knows someone who works in a similar way, or has a similar business, saw that similarity and brought it to the attention of someone who then allowed their own ego or fears to have them believing the worst.

Whatever its motivation, lives have been ended because one or more have decided to target another with vicious cruelty.

The Five of Fire, therefore, represents a choice to walk one of two paths – to embrace or even condone this behavior, or to end it.

Featured Card of the Day – 9 of Wands – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Posted on Updated on

Artist:  Regan Kubecek

Website:  http://www.artbyregan.com.au

Artist Interpretation

As soon as I am given my card I immediately start exploring, learning and trying to understand its meaning. And with this particular card I felt a strong connection, it resonated with me. And I believe it is a card that would hold meaning for most of us at some time in our lives.

My connection with the Nine of Wands was immediate, I pictured a solitary warrior, soldier. A neon beauty from a far galaxy. She has fought a long battle and although weary, she is ready to continue if needed.

We all have faced difficult times, faced trials we thought too difficult to overcome. This card appears to tell us to persevere and not give up.

Card Meaning

An alien warrior stands, looking wearing and fatigued, a staff in her hand, her wand, containing her power, her weapon to use as and when she needs. Eight more wands hurtle toward her – her fight is not yet won. Resigned but ready, she turns to face the onslaught…

When this card appears in a reading, it’s time to regroup and prepare. Think about how far you have come, and how much you have learned on the way. Consider how much you’ve endured to get to this point, and how much stronger it has made you. You’ve been working so hard for so long that you are weary, but don’t doubt yourself or your capabilities and experience through tiredness. You’ve got this. You’re prepared for this, and the end IS in sight. Give yourself a break – take a bit of time, to rest and recover. Reclaim your motivation and focus. Recharge your mental and spiritual energies and then dig deep into the wells of stamina and resilience that you possess. Harness your inner strength and dive right back in.

Featured Card of the Day – King of Wands – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Posted on Updated on

Artist:  Mike Tenebrae

Website:  http://www.tenebraestudios.net

Artist Interpretation

The astral theme was very appealing to me, as I got a chance to draw up a cool robotic armor suit and indulge in my love of retro-80s futuristic themes. I wanted to create a figure that looked intimidating, but without being menacing. As he is a king, he does not engage much in manual tasks so the suit is really more about aesthetics. I drew inspiration from anime, mech design and space Lego! My original concept was to be more of a regal cloaked figure, it then went to a kind of mobile living fortress (something like the SDF 1 from Robotech) before I finally combined the two into one design. I would like to leave it ambiguous as to whether there is a person wearing the suit, driving the mech or whether it is a sentient machine. His wand is a combination of a scepter and a staff. With its galaxy globe hinting at the potential of power that is waiting to be released.

Card Meaning

When this card appears in a reading, it is suggesting that it’s time to take charge. Do not be led by others, but instead forge forward on your own path. Your passion and originality will not steer you wrong!! You have the desire, drive and strength you need, just keep focus and don’t allow negativity to affect you. Consult with those who share your vision, work with them enthusiastically and don’t be afraid to lead them when called upon. Rather than waste your time dealing with naysayers who may sap your energy, and try to push you in a direction you’re not happy with.

The King of Wands can also signify an innovative, commanding figure that is in your life currently, or coming into it soon. A born leader, someone unafraid to stand in the spotlight and command, sure of himself and of all his actions and decisions. Offering you a chance to manifest the results you want.

Featured Card of the Day – 7 of Swords – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Posted on Updated on

Artist:  Eli Neugeboren

Website:  http://www.elineugeboren.com

Artist Interpretation

Seven of Swords is traditionally depicted as a figure with a handful of pilfered swords, and irate townspeople off in the distance. It is associated with trying to get away with something, deception, and betrayal. I spent a lot of time developing the main figure, and was very inspired by the mage-cyborg character from the animated short, “Adam” (Unity, 2016). The habitats in the background stand in for the traditional townsfolk, and the swords are some kind of cybernetic hybrid machete, standing scattered in the ground behind our mysterious space warrior-mage. Far off in the background is an orbital habitat, aloof from our hero’s problems.

Card Meaning

A futuristic mech stands, sword in hand, six more weapons behind him. In the distance there are raised dwellings, but no one follows him. He has snuck away with these weapons, leaving his people less defended, and a satellite approaches, but we cannot condemn him completely, his motives are not yet clear.

When this card appears in a reading, it’s time to take a good, hard look at yourself and what you’re doing. You’re making a break from tradition and going out on your own. But are you making things worse for yourself, and others? Are you being independent, or are you running away? We all need solitude from time to time, but on the other side of the coin, collaboration and teamwork can help us move forward. You need to work this through and decide where your motives truly lie. It’s time to be honest with yourself, face the facts and start behaving differently to improve the future. By hiding away and procrastinating, you certainly aren’t helping yourself, or anyone else.

Featured Card of the Day – 4 of Pentacles – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Posted on Updated on

Artist:  Alexandria Sandlin

Website:  http://www.eightandsand.com

Artist Interpretation

I wanted my card to look like a vintage sci-fi novel cover. Symbolically I had a hard time relating to this card. I don’t like being tied down in life, by things especially. I am a big risk taker, always looking as I leap so I think it’s safe to say I am used to a life that is not full of stability. The way I interpret it is that the figure has her earthly responsibilities, and that is actually a positive thing, to have things to care about. She is floating above, transcending the physical at the same time. I think this card is about balancing the physical and spiritual. Not getting tied down physically or spiritually/mentally with a lot of unnecessary things/ideas/emotions. Being a fly by the seat of my pants kind of person it can be hard for me to see that stability and responsibility are not always bad, not shackles tying you down unless you let them. You can rise above and accept the good in that and let the rest go.

Card Meaning

An alien princess has travelled away from the vast city where she rules. She hovers above a pentacle, clasping more to her chest, but she has paused, surrounded by her wealth, holding onto it, but doing nothing with it. Not growing, or developing, not using it, or enjoying it. But just hoarding it.

When this card appears in a reading, it’s time for balance. Keeping an eye on your finances is always a good plan, money does not, after all, grow on trees. But when that financial caution makes you feel guilty for spending any money, or enjoying the rewards you work so hard for, it’s gone too far. Life is to be lived. Trying to exercise too much control can give you tunnel vision. It can make you erect walls around yourself, isolating you from the world. Make sure you control your money, rather than letting it control you.
