Featured Card of the Day – The Moon – Monstarot from Joanna Nelson Studio

Keywords

Dreams, intuition, illusions

Artist Interpretation

The gentle sleeping Moon helps guide you by providing a dim light along the path you will travel towards, a higher understanding. It’s time to find a way to stop letting your imagination run wild with anxiety and fear. Things are not as they appear. Instead, listen to the soft sounds of your inner voice. The bug plans a sweet melody on the violin, into the night sky. Digging deep now past the illusion and deception, meditate on that melody which is your inner voice singing to you.

Card Meaning

The sleeping Moon represents dreams, and reminds us that its light casts only shadows. Here is a world of dark things that are not quite what they should be, more what you perceive them to be…it’s time to trust in your instincts and intuition to fully understand what’s going on.

Featured Card of the Day – 4 Of Pentacles – 78 Tarot Carnival ~ Cirque du Tarot

Posted on Updated on

Artist: Helena Reis

Keywords

Possession, security, material focus, control

Artist Statement

“This card generates positive and negative perceptions. On one hand, it signifies you have accomplished many of your goals and have attained material wealth in the process. On the other hand, there’s a risk that you will come to value only material wealth, becoming possessive, or greedy to ensure that no-one takes it away.

I tried to paint a woman pleased with her accomplishments, but instead of celebrating with everyone else (the circus in the background), she is holding on to her wealth like it’s the most important thing. (Inspired by the many paintings depicting Madonna and Child)”

Card Meaning

A robed figure stands in front of the carnival, three pentacle coins clasped to her chest. A fourth pentacle is worn, halo-like around her head. She has been given the opportunity to visit the circus, to take some time out from her ususal duties and enjoy herself. But she hesitates, the money in her hands clasping her “wealth” to her chest. She cannot convince herself to share the wealth with the carnival, to spend some of her money on joy.

This card warns us that money should be enjoyed, rather than hoarded. Material success is wonderful, reducing worries and stress, but it is a stepping stone, rather than the end of a journey. Work should be built on, money should be spent to improve your life, rather than collected greedily and ultimately becoming a banner to our own happiness.

Featured Card of the Day – 6 of Swords – 78 Tarot Nautical ~ Tarot of the Water

Transition, travel, guidance, escape, recovery

Artist Interpretation

“Usually the card has sad looking people in a boat being guided along by a creepy looking oarsman. Themes are moving away from hard times into better times/smoother sailing ahead, and letting go and allowing others to take care of you or allowing for divine forces to see you to a safer shore, etc. The cool thing about the minors is they often tell more of a story, and I have always wondered what happened to the people in the boat to make them so downtrodden. So I decided to tell the story of what happened, in a sense. I drew a sort of Viking Shield Maiden Lady. I think her and her five comrades got caught in a storm and they all drowned but her. She magaged to make it to a rocky outcrop in the middle of the sea along with the washed up swords of her comrades. The storm is now breaking and another ship is on the horizon to come and carry her to safety.”

Card Meaning

A Viking shield-maiden stands, shipwrecked, upon a rocky outcropping. The lone survivor of stormy seas, she carries only the weapons of her lost comrades – a shield showing her symbolic guide, and six swords, pointing down, indicating that their bearers are at rest. She mourns her loss, but knows she must move on. On the far horizon a ship approaches, representing her journey to safety, rescued from the grief she feels. Calm waters lie beyond the storm that brought her here, and she can see peace in her future. But, first she must let go of that which she held dear.

This card represents a sad, but necessary, transition. A hard choice for a better outcome. While the change itself will be tough, things will get infinitely better, and you will feel much better for it, mind, body and soul.

Featured Card of the Day – The Hierophant – Monstarot from Joanna Nelson Studio

Artist: Joanna Nelson

Website: JoannaNelsonStudio.com

Keywords

Guidance, tradition, knowledge

Artist Interpretation

Carrying a very special tree branch as his sceptre, and wearing a sacred wrap around his fur, the Hierophant stands between two birch trees burning, one white ritual candle on his antler. He is an educator and here to share his wisdom, experience, the old ways and traditions.

Card Meaning

You have a choice between listening to advice and following a conventional path, or ignoring others and going it alone. The Hierophant recommends that you go with the flow in this situation. He is a traditionalist, a role model, and has wisdom to impart. The trees forming pillars behind him are suggestive of an entranceway – he can open doors to you and act as a guide, offering illumination (the candle on his antler), but only if you listen to his teachings, and play by the rules.

Impotence, fear, isolation

Artist Interpretation

Bound in place by her own tail and surrounded by swords, this little monster stands in a barren land, with her eyes closed tight. She is trapped in her own mind, and although there are always answers, she cannot see any way out at the moment.

Card Meaning

You have the power here, even if you don’t feel like it. You’re in a mire of your own making. You feel trapped and isolated, but the only thing blocking your way is yourself. Even though you can’t see it right now, there is a way out of this…just have faith in yourself. Shake yourself free, open your eyes and let yourself see the situation clearly. Move out of your own way, don’t let your doubts and fears hold you back.
