THE CARD’S STORY BY: MAIGAN LYNN

The first thing that came to mind was to create a witch or a wizard so I decided to go with Morgan le Fay. It is rumored that she apprenticed beneath Merlin, the Wizard. So here, I have depicted her practicing her witchcraft in the forest as a new witch with new magic. In a lot of illustrations you see Morgan le Fay in a dark dress. I purposely went with a grey colour to further express the beginnings of who Morgan le Fay later became. I also purposely chose the winter season as it’s the season before spring, when everything begins to grow. It’s the beginning of something new. I also made sure to include some familiars, the Raven and the Fox, as she was often seen in company of animals with black fur or feathers.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

Alone in the forest, Morgan le Fay tests what she has learnt, away from the eyes of her teacher. This is her time to hone her skills, her chance to practice and push herself further, possibly push herself beyond even what Merlin has taught her. Getting the job done doesn’t have to be a chore. It can be a thrill to put your hard earned skills to use and provide for yourself by utilizing your knowledge and experience. To find new ways to achieve what you want, to test and challenge yourself. And to sit back once the tasks are complete, rewarded both in tangible terms, and in the knowledge that you did it ALL for yourself, without depending on anyone else.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: MORGAN LE FAY

Morgan le Fey is a powerful sorceress within Arthurian legend, oft en referred to as the half-sister of Arthur himself. She was the apprentice (and lover) to Merlin, and for all she was Arthur’s sister, she is a villain of the tale – a jealous, spiteful enemy and possibly the greatest adversary Arthur would ever face. She does relent in the end however, and is one of the maidens who takes Arthur to Avalon aft er his death. Given that she was a talented witch, constantly attempting to build on her power, and that much of her reputation appears to have resulted from her femininity, we felt she was an ideal representation of this card.

Card of the Day – The Devil – Sunday, April 21, 2019

Posted on Updated on

What do you do that holds you back from being the best version of you that you can be?  There is some form of self-sabotage going on here, and the time has come to break out of those old ways.  The Devil represents addictions, temptations, frustrations, feeling trapped, and, above all, your free will, and your ability to extricate yourself from situations that bind.

So, what do you do?  For some, it may be as obvious as diet, exercise, drugs, alcohol, internet, and the like, but for others it may be far less tangible, and much more about you being set in your ways.  Old patterns need to be broken now; it is highly likely that you are aware of them, but necessary for you to begin actually choosing to break them in your own best interest.

See you here tomorrow!

THE CARD’S STORY BY: RYDIA LEVESQUE MARTINET

This shows the Knight as a colonel riding the Beast of Gevaudan, from French folklore of the 18th century. Th is beast is a wolf-like creature and hundreds of people died under its sharp teeth. Here, the colonel has been able to control the creature and make it his mount. He is a fierce character who never gives up and nothing can stop him. Behind is the storming of the Bastille (symbol of the French revolution). The man leaves darkness behind and moves to a brighter future. I chose a French creature because French folklore is not very well known and being French myself, I wanted to work with that.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

Instead of hunting and killing the Beast of Gévaudan, one French soldier has decided to dominate it, proving his will over that of the creature by riding it into battle. You’re full of energy and inspiration, you know how to get what you want, and you’re on your way to achieving it. You’re determined and confident, knowing that your motives are beyond reproach, your actions assured. But, in your logical, detached approach, do you seem a bit arrogant and hasty? Take a moment to think about the consequences. Th e Knight of Swords can predict a person in your life who is highly logical, but lacks compassion and understanding – they don’t mean to, but sometimes they come across as superior, even smug.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: BEAST OF GÉVAUDAN

The Beast of Gévaudan was a legendary wolf-like creature who reportedly terrorised the Gévaudan region of France in the 1700’s. Hundreds of people were attacked, over a hundred died in a spate of killings that lasted three or so years. Whether this creature was simply a wolf, or something more fantastical has never been determined, but the single-minded dedication of those who tried to hunt it made an interesting concept for the Knight of Swords.

Card of the Day – 5 of Wands- Saturday, April 20, 2019

Posted on Updated on

Happy Saturday! The word of the day is conflict…so, I have a question for you? How are you dealing with yesterday’s Full Moon which occurred at 29° Libra? Bear in mind the Moon is now in intense Scorpio. Do you have a tendency to engage in every argument which comes your way? Or, do you do your best to avoid conflicts and find some sort of means to keep the peace and promote togetherness in your world? Today the Sun moves into Taurus, leaving Aries where it was exalted, and Venus leaves its comfy place in Pisces to move into Aries. The rose-colored glasses come off, and blunt words and actions may show themselves before the end of the day. Like I said…conflict.

Not all conflict is in your outer world. I would venture that while events surrounding you may be more visible to the naked eye, the real conflicts lie within the soul. That struggle to change things is strong now, and it is likely apparent that the changes are yours alone to make. Do not be a slave to your habits and pattern choices. There are days when life can feel like trying to punch your way out of a paper bag. It happens. If you are feeling conflicted over things you know you should be doing, do not procrastinate, go do it, and set yourself free!

See you here tomorrow!

THE CARD’S STORY BY: SUE RUNDLES-HUGHES

In my illustration, an aged woman is sitting in her garden, in front of an archway that leads to her home. She is visited by the Chinese Sanxing (the three deities): Shou, Lu and Fu. Shou is the god of longevity and is recognized by his high, domed forehead. He is always smiling and friendly and carries a peach of immortality. Lu is the god of status and success and Fu is the god of good fortune and prosperity. Fu cradles the woman’s grandchild in his arms and another grandchild is entertaining them with her happy chatter. The woman watches on, content and smiling, while petting the family dog. In the distance there are two people walking towards the family house. These could be her adult children or memories of the woman’s younger self with her husband.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

A family is visited by the Sanxing, who bring with them prosperity, health and success, bringing in turn peace of mind. Contentment for themselves, and happiness that their young family will be protected and secure as they age. All your hard work is paying off – success is on its way, bringing to your life not just stability and comfort, but even greater opportunity. Chances to build on what you have already created, if you choose to take advantage of your own momentum. To go further than you had ever thought, and make not only your dreams come true, but those of your family too.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: SANXING

In Chinese mythology, Fu, Lu and Shou are three deities collectively referred to as Sanxing (the three stars). Th ey are the gods of prosperity, status and health, and statues of them are considered very lucky to have in your home, offi ce or community, especially around Chinese New Year. Lu Xing in particular is associated with family, and bringing luck to childless couples trying for a baby, so this collective of gods felt like a wonderful fi t for this meaning of this card.

Card of the Day – Judgement – Friday, April 19, 2019

Posted on Updated on

Full Moon blessings, everyone! Today is the second of two Libra Full Moons, this one occurring at 29 , bringing to culmination issues regarding relationships and matters of justice. 29 is a karmic degree, as is our Judgement card a card of karma. This is a powerful, potent moment, a turning point, if you will, and it is important to note, most of you will actually be spending your day under a Scorpio Moon. Just like the Phoenix, under the Scorpio Moon, the Judgement card is indicative of a rebirth, a rising up, very appropriate for this holiest of days, Good Friday.

With the Judgement card, we very often see a separation of good and evil. There may be those who feel as though they are being raised up, and there may be those who feel as though the rug has just been pulled from under them. As I said above, this is a very karmic Full Moon, with a very karmic card attached to it.
