5 of Swords

Card of the Day – 5 of Swords (Air) – Friday, September 6, 2019

Posted on Updated on

Winning is the name of the game today.  A couple of today’s aspects can be worked to your favor.  First, there is the Sun trine Saturn, and while most usually gasp in horror when Saturn is mentioned, today is quite different.  The Sun shines a beautiful light on all things, and with this trine, Saturn is poised to help you by recognizing and rewarding your achievements when it comes to your long-term goals. Sounds pretty good, huh?  Second, is Mercury square Jupiter, and wherever Jupiter goes, goodness follows.  It is important here to choose your words carefully, but, in doing so, you can effect some positive results.

Now, there always needs to be a flip side, because we are not all moving in the same direction.  Heads up, for the majority of you, the Moon will be void-of-course for most of the day, and should you try to initiate new conversation, or action, you may very well feel as though you are battling to be seen, heard, and understood.  To stay on the side of winning, focus today’s tasks on projects already begun, and you will be able to see some very positive results which you can chalk up in the winner’s column.

See you here tomorrow!

Card of the Day – 5 of Swords – Saturday, August 10, 2019

Posted on Updated on

Today may feel a little bit frustrating, for the mere fact that you have so much you wish to do, and you can not do it all today.  Under the Sagittarius Moon, there is a tendency to have too many things started, and all of those shiny objects can lead to major distraction.  Resolve to choose only one or two projects today to see through to completion, if possible, thereby creating a victory for yourself.  This is not meant to be a battle, so make your choices wisely.

The 5 of Swords can refer to battles, fights, victory, defeat, winning at all costs, and reminds us that things often go much smoother when we avoid conflict rather than inciting it.  There are no major aspects today, nor is there a New or Full Moon, so there should not be a whiff of conflict in the air, merely you trying to best yourself, which you can do, provided you do not take on too many things.

See you here tomorrow!

Featured Card of the Day – 5 of Swords – Crow Tarot by M.J. Cullinane

Artist: M.J. Cullinane

Card Meaning

The victorious crow holds the swords of those he defeated. It was a hard battle and the result may on the surface look positive but may, in the end, lead to loneliness and despair. The Five of Swords denotes a hard-fought battle that you won, but the cost may end up being higher than expected. It could be a loss of friendship at the expense of being right or a conflict that will leave you feeling isolated.

Card of the Day – 5 of Swords – Saturday, June 15, 2019

Posted on Updated on

As I came upon this card today, and I was looking at what is going on in the skies, I concluded it is indeed the right card for today. We are only two days from the Full Moon in Sagittarius (the Moon enters Sagittarius early here today), and are currently sandwiched in between two separate aspects, one yesterday involving Mars and Saturn, and one tomorrow with Mercury and Saturn. So often, when we see a 5 of Swords card, there appears to have been a fight…

Our 5 of Swords will play out in all kinds of ways today, possibly most visible to all will be those individuals wishing to engage in battle with everyone around them, desiring to win at all costs. Perhaps they are feeling Mars’ aggressive tendencies, and would be best left alone to gloat over their “win”, which is likely to be short-lived. This card very much runs the gamut of the phrase “the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat” – there is no set way to expect things to go today. The mental side of this, with Mercury in play, is in thought and communication, which can leave some with that “me against the world” attitude. Remember this, you do not need to be a part of anyone’s drama, and you do not lose when you walk away from it – quite the opposite.

See you here tomorrow!

THE CARD’S STORY BY: ANASTASIA SMITH

Bishamonten looks upon the defeated and retreating form of Hachiman in contempt. He swings his chain of swords won from the battlefield in wild abandon, razing down friend and foe alike in his rage. In the background the monastery he came to protect burns under an angry sky, an ill omen that all is not well and this battle may be won for nothing. Th e Five of Swords represents the Pyrrhic victory. You may have won the battle, but the cost has far outweighed any triumph you could hope to gain.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

Lost in the heat of battle, Bishamonten continues to rage, soldiers at his feet, his enemy slinking off in defeat. His actions are futile now, but still he fi ghts. What has this victory cost him? What has it cost others? Th e monastery he was to protect has gone up in flames. You could claim victory in this situation. Fight dirty, mean, or even just smarter, and you could win, you know it. But before you charge in, focusing only on what you stand to gain, think. Consider the cost. Do the ends justify the means? Will your “victory” hurt those you love? How much will this fight cost you? Be careful that this argument doesn’t lead to more tension, rather than bringing resolution. Yes, you may win the battle, but lose the war.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: BISHAMONTEN

Bishamonten is a consummate warrior and protector in Japanese mythology. He is depicted wearing armour and is the god of fortune in battles, but is not the god of war. His roles include protection of sacred sites, and of the righteous, as well as defeating evil. But for all his virtues, some legends suggest that he can be brutal, careless even, of those who may be hurt by his endeavours. It is this side of him that suggested his legend would be a perfect fit for the Five of Swords.

Card of the Day – 5 of Swords – Tuesday, December 25, 2018

Posted on Updated on

Merry Christmas, everyone! Today’s Tarot Card of the Day takes us on a trip in the Way-back Machine, over 100 years ago, to Christmas 1914. At the time, World War I had not been being fought for long, and Pope Benedict XV, earlier in December, called for a Christmas truce. A ceasefire never officially was declared, but, upon the arrival of Christmas Day, on the Western front, soldiers on all sides laid down their arms, wished each other a Merry Christmas, sang carols to their foes, and for one day, set aside their differences. This is a moment in our great history when we can all learn a valuable lesson.

Under today’s Leo Moon, a more party-like atmosphere exists; Leo enjoys a fun time, albeit, occasionally a little drama as well. Today’s 5 of Swords card encourages us all to set down our swords, put aside conflicts, and come together in the spirit of the season. Do your best to celebrate in a drama-free manner. This applies to those of you who do not celebrate as well. A worldwide effort to end divisiveness and fighting can go a long way, if we all do our part. Peace on Earth, good will toward men.

See you here tomorrow!

Card of the Day – 5 of Swords – Tuesday, October 16, 2018

Posted on Updated on

So who out there has been waiting for that next chapter to begin? The cards have been showing that you are just so over it all already. You have been ready to close that door and start something fresh and exciting. You pull yourself up each day and go out and do it all over again, hoping that maybe today is the day. While patience, persistence, and determination are to be admired, there is still that sense of needing to conquer this beast once and for all. This can and will cause tensions to rise and even well up inside of you.

Currently, we have Venus, retrograde in Scorpio, Jupiter in Scorpio, and Mercury in Scorpio, so intensity is off the charts. This 5 of Swords is here to remind us to be a bit more gentle with ourselves and others. Winning at all costs is not always winning. So, when you have those intense, tense feelings taking up residence in your psyche, do not choose to let them enter and stay. Brush it off, do not engage, either within yourself or with others. This Venus retrograde is showing you where things need to be fixed, not conquered, so, do not allow yourself to become part of someone else’s battle. Choose to walk away; you can always revisit things when the energies affecting the other party have calmed.

See you here tomorrow!
