THE CARD’S STORY BY: SUE RUNDLES-HUGHES
In my illustration, an aged woman is sitting in her garden, in front of an archway that leads to her home. She is visited by the Chinese Sanxing (the three deities): Shou, Lu and Fu. Shou is the god of longevity and is recognized by his high, domed forehead. He is always smiling and friendly and carries a peach of immortality. Lu is the god of status and success and Fu is the god of good fortune and prosperity. Fu cradles the woman’s grandchild in his arms and another grandchild is entertaining them with her happy chatter. The woman watches on, content and smiling, while petting the family dog. In the distance there are two people walking towards the family house. These could be her adult children or memories of the woman’s younger self with her husband.
THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN
A family is visited by the Sanxing, who bring with them prosperity, health and success, bringing in turn peace of mind. Contentment for themselves, and happiness that their young family will be protected and secure as they age. All your hard work is paying off – success is on its way, bringing to your life not just stability and comfort, but even greater opportunity. Chances to build on what you have already created, if you choose to take advantage of your own momentum. To go further than you had ever thought, and make not only your dreams come true, but those of your family too.
MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: SANXING
In Chinese mythology, Fu, Lu and Shou are three deities collectively referred to as Sanxing (the three stars). Th ey are the gods of prosperity, status and health, and statues of them are considered very lucky to have in your home, offi ce or community, especially around Chinese New Year. Lu Xing in particular is associated with family, and bringing luck to childless couples trying for a baby, so this collective of gods felt like a wonderful fi t for this meaning of this card.

Card of the Day – 2 of Pentacles – Wednesday, April 17, 2019
Today is the first real day of escape from Mercury retrograde in Pisces. If you thought it was brutal, you would not be alone. Now that Mercury will be zipping along in Aries until the first week of May, there is much to be done. Oh, and of course, the Moon is now in Libra, where we will have a Full Moon at 29° in two days.
The 2 of Pentacles is all about maintaining balance in your life, as in between work and home, managing to keep your priorities straight, and making it all look effortless at times. Between Mercury and the Moon (after all, Libra is all about balance) you will be moving to beat the band. This card very often depicts holding it all together, in spite of chaos in the background. Now that we are in Full Moon territory, there will be no shortage of chaos, with Uranus in the mix, adding a surprise element to things. Jupiter will also be around, being wonderfully supportive, so chances are, all will be fine.

Card of the Day – Page of Swords – Tuesday, April 16, 2019
Mental thinking and communications grow stronger over today and tomorrow as Mercury leaves shadow and moves on into the sign of Aries. It has been months since Mercury has been in a position this good, and you will be raring to go in the next twenty-four hours, ready to take on challenges and get things done.
The Page of Swords is not only a messenger, but also a very curious sort, in a curiosity killed the cat kind of way. With this card, the caution to think before doing goes without saying, for as the Aries energy hits, with the Sun already in the late degrees of Aries, the urge to move forward without forethought can be quite likely. Pause and ask yourself if your call-to-action is in your best interest. This is not an idle card, and if used wisely, much can be done to serve your interests.

THE CARD’S STORY BY: HUGH MCMUNN
I chose Eve and Adam for the image as they represent a relationship connected to our human heritage. I liked the intimacy and unrepressed transparency represented by their nude bodies and them lovingly sharing drink and the fruit of knowledge. I used the traditional element of the caduceus for its overlapping serpent mythology. I unwrapped them and let them curl in the background, using them to flow from the mouth of the lion to integrate the elements. My original idea was to place Eve and Adam in a traditional garden of Eden but pared the background down to emphasize the connection between them and the tender nurturing, offering of both drink and nourishment.
THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN
Adam and Eve stand below a Lion headed, angelic figure as Caduceus style snakes weave about them. They share a drink and forbidden fruit. It’s a time for harmony, for working together, and a respectful, mutually beneficial partnership. Embrace this chance to support and be supportive. Don’t let barriers and walls you erect to protect yourself hinder you here. Don’t miss out on happiness and harmony. Inside, you know this has the chance to be a great relationship, as if your souls know each other already. Trust.
MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: ADAM & EVE
Adam and Eve represent the first humans placed in the world by their creator in Abrahamic tradition. Th e story says that God made man in his own image and placed him in the idyllic Garden of Eden, yet still Adam was unfulfilled. So God created a companion for him from his own rib bone and the two became “one flesh”. Together they dwell in the land of Eden, where they are permitted to eat of all the fruits in the garden save one. Their legendary romance and the snakes of the traditional Caduceus evokes images of the Two of Cups.

Card of the Day – Temperance – Sunday, April 14, 2019
After having experienced about four or five rough days, things are seemingly beginning to balance themselves. Energy shifts are on the horizon in the coming week, so the time is here to begin to focus in their direction. With the Temperance card, we often find ourselves discussing the topics of patience, balance, focus, health, and moderation, all of which can be very much interconnected.
It is important at the moment to maintain, or perhaps regain is a better word, a sense of balance, by pacing oneself in order to keep moving in the direction of your goals. After all, if you allow life to be off-kilter, or focus solely on one thing, then you are likely to be missing out on crucial moves necessary to take you to your destination. THE CARD’S STORY BY: MIKE TENEBRAE
I went with an ogre – a creature generally defined by base desires. But maybe some are different. After all, humanity is predatory in so many ways, the key is to rise above it and contemplate deeper things. This ogre, worn out from his personal crusade, tired from old wounds and long journeys has taken refuge in an old shrine. He sits down to rest and contemplate a life well lived, satisfied that it was for something other than personal indulgence. He lays his sword at his feet – a companion to three others there – and under the caring gaze of a mother and child portrayed in the warm glass, begins to drift away into a peaceful sleep.
THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN
In an ancient tomb the Ogre, weary from his trials and tribulations, lays down his sword. Sunlight shines through the window beside him, a comforting image of family, but he pays them no heed. He is tired, and needs rest. No matter how busy you are, you need time to rest, or you’ll burn out. You can try to fool yourself that “I’ll sleep when I’m dead”, but your mind and body aren’t going to listen. You’ll make mistakes, and your mood will dip. Especially when your to do list is full, make time for you – walk away from it all, just for a few minutes. Relax and refocus your energies – when you start up again, you’ll make better progress for that time away!
MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: OGRE
Usually depicted as a brutish and stupid creature, the Ogre is featured in many tales and myths as an adversary. They are named for the Etruscan God Orcus whose cannibalistic tendencies they are oft en shown as emulating. In some tales, villains who devour enemies (literally or figuratively) are described as an Ogre or as acting in an “Ogrish” manner. Being a monstrous character, they are constantly under attack, so we felt it would be an intriguing character for the Four of Swords.
