THE CARD’S STORY BY: ELLEN MILLION

In Greek legend, the Pleiades were seven sisters, daughters of Atlas and the sea-nymph Pleione. When Orion chose to pursue them, unwanted, Zeus turned the girls first into doves and then into stars, where as a constellation, they still flee Orion. I chose the sisters, giving them each a cup of wonders to offer. While you may be tempted by the riches that appear in each vessel, don’t be blindly seduced down a path that could hold danger. A great wave threatens to break over the path they are calling you down, and they may only offer fantasies.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

Against a starlit night sky, seven beautiful nymphs stand, each holding a goblet of temptations – power, wealth, and other glorious offerings. There is a clear path between them, the sea-nymphs holding the waters back. But for how long? Decisions, decisions! There are so many possibilities before you, that it’s turned into a blessing and a curse. You’re losing focus, so many things whirling around in your mind and heart that you’re getting caught up in the process rather than moving forward. Getting distracted by flights of fancy, targeting too many things at once. Realistically it doesn’t matter how many options you have, if you don’t actively chase any of them.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: PLEIADES

The Pleaides were seven sisters born of Atlas the titan to Pleione, the sea nymph. Nymphs themselves, they were mothers to some other mythic figures, but their own legend is infamous. Orion, the huntsman, started to pursue all the sisters when they lost the protection of their father – when Atlas was forced to hold up the sky. Zeus came to their aid, transforming them all into doves, and later into stars. It is said that they all killed themselves out of sorrow, and that Zeus took pity on them and turned them into a constellation that can still be seen today. Seven tempting sisters instantly brings to mind images of the Seven of Cups.

THE CARD’S STORY BY: CHRIS SEDGWICK

I chose to replace the traditional central figure, who is most oft en compared to Sophia or Wisdom, with the Roman god Janus, traditionally thought to oversee beginnings and transitions, both sacred and profane, the originator of time and the guardian of the gates of heaven. I chose to focus Janus on the aspects of balancing the four elements and the wisdom of duality – shown in two ways, one by the obvious nature of the two faced god and the other is shown by breaking up the cycle of the beginning and end symbolically by having one face look down toward a candle that has been blown out and the other looking up holding a lit candle. Th e four hands represent the four elements dropping wisdom or Sophia, represented by the small stars falling from their palms.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

Dual-faced god, Janus, stands, one face downcast, considering what has gone before. Th is side of him has a blade pointed to his own heart, an extinguished candle in his hand, as this phase ends, casting him into the depths. Th e other face searches the sky for the next part in his journey, a new challenge, which Janus will face with light and hope. Life is a series of cycles, and it’s time for this cycle to end. Victory is upon you, success is assured – all your hard work paying off , so it’s time to enjoy it. Celebrate your achievements and consider all you’ve learned along the way…how you can take this experience with you to help you face your next challenge.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: JANUS

Janus is a two faced god within Roman mythology. He is unique to the Roman pantheon having no Greek or other equivalent. Famous for being the god of duality, doorways and transitions, he was oft en seen as the point between states, including the move from war to peace. Also associated with the movement of time, his one face would look back at history, the other would look forward. Th e way in which Janus represented beginnings and endings, we felt that he is perfect personification of the concepts within this card.

The Moon

THE CARD’S STORY BY: LEILANI JOY

I wanted to embody Isis, said to represent fertility, wisdom, and have a strong connection to the underworld. She transcends our awareness and acts as a gatekeeper between worlds. My card is inspired by Egyptian art, Surrealism and Art Deco. She not only guards the worlds between worlds, but she herself is the gateway. I loved the idea of playing with positive and negative space, conscious and subconscious. She represents a balance between the masculine and feminine, and I wanted her face and pose to exude strong, feminine power. She is a delicate representation of harmony, in composition and meaning. At her chest lies the silhouette of a pomegranate – the symbol of Persephone. Look beyond her gate into the calming sea blues as The High Priestess invites you to trust your intuition and inner voice.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

Isis stands at a gateway to the unknown, inviting you to be worthy of entrance to the mysteries she guards. Just one look at her shows her power and authority, as she challenges you to prove yourself. It’s time to stop, and accept an invitation from the High Priestess – to learn more about yourself, and realize you have so much more to learn. Try going with the fl ow for a while, rather than diving straight in. Ask yourself what you’re currently missing – the strong presence of the Moon suggests that there is more going on than you can see. So, learn to listen to your intuition – that nagging voice you’re currently ignoring….make sure you understand the situation fully before you move on.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION

ISIS Isis is the Queen of the Gods in the ancient Egyptian pantheon, wife and resurrector of Osiris. She was the primary goddess in death rites, considered a protector of the dead, as well as a maternal figure, healer and the keeper of secrets. She brought knowledge to women of Egypt in her role as the Queen of the gods, including teaching women how to weave and bake. Given the female archetype that is Isis, along with her reputation for wisdom and keeper of mysteries, we felt that she was a fantastic representation of our Mythical High Priestess

Compassion, discretion, love

Artist Interpretation

For me, the idea for my piece came together relatively quickly, though I did go through a few fairly different iterations before arriving at the final idea. The first few pieces were a bit more ethereal and probably just not “spacey” enough…and one was a bit too close to another card.

Finally though, I came up with the six armed creature. I always loved Edgar Rice Burroughs’ four armed Tharks of Mars, and that was probably in the back of my mind. The cup aspect was pretty obvious. I wanted it to appear as if she was capturing the whole universe, maybe remaking it, curating it, even healing it. Since it is not an actual piece in motion, it could be read as if she were almost birthing it as well…so it was a win-win!

The Card’s Message by Trish Sullivan

When this card appears in a reading, it is suggesting that compassion is sorely needed in this situation. Be mindful of the feelings of those around you, be sensitive, caring, and supportive. Try to react with a kind word, rather than a sharp retort when someone hurts or annoys you. Be the embodiment of the healing, patient aspects that you want to see more of this world. Lead by example.

Listen to your emotions and let them guide you, but remember not to be enslaved by them!

The Queen of Cups can signify someone you know, a kind, sensitive person who comes into even the most fraught situation, and can quickly understand how everyone feels, and act accordingly to soothe tempers and make you feel better. She is in absolute control of her emotions, so while the sentimental Page and Knight of Cups can snap, and be moody, she is always calm and forgiving, offering you an atmosphere of love acceptance.

Power of self, innovation, personal experience

Artist Interpretation

The Magician crouches over a floating table which is a piece of an obelisk full of stars. Along the broken edges are glowing alien primordial element symbols of alchemists in pure white and red light. A mental energy pulsates between its antennas over its head in the form of an eternity symbol. The Magicians belt is also an eternity symbol of an alien xenomorph-type snake biting its own tail. Behind the Magician is the planet Mercury that magician is associated with. Classic looking saucer ships seem to come from the planet, also are meant to convey the connection with Mercury. His right hand levitates a wand raised in front of the galaxy’s center, which is channeling power from the universe to his left hand pointing to the hologram of earth on the table to direct it to the physical plane.

The Card’s Message by Trish Sullivan

A powerful alien lord surveys a dais decked with the symbols of the Tarot suits, and a globe, representing his universal power and control. His spacesuit is white, illustrating that his motives are pure, his purpose is just. His scepter is raised, drawing energy directly from the cosmos, funneling it through himself to the items before him. This is his power to command, a force that he can channel however he sees fit.

When this card appears in a reading, it is reminding you that you already have everything that you need within you. Your knowledge and experience are more than enough – just keep your focus and unlock your potential. Keep your confidence and don’t let worry or doubt hold you back – YOU are all you need to power through.

Featured Card of the Day – 7 of Wands – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Defense, courage, tenacity

Artist Interpretation

Seven of Wands, fighting for your right to be on top, to defend your position–whatever it may be. Usually depicted as a man, I thought this year was fitting to depict a woman. Standing above the other planet wands I have a moon goddess with a universe being created in her hands–not fully developed because it will be up to you…it can fully develop or fall apart depending on your efforts. Fighting for her right to be on top, she shows courage while defending herself. Her dress fades into the stars and galaxies behind her, representing the struggle to remain on top. You will have to have determination and fight to stay relevant, as well as courage and belief in yourself.

The Card’s Message by Trish Sullivan

When this card appears in a reading, there’s no need to tell you that you’re on the defensive…you’re already well aware, and feeling the pressure from all sides. But the card’s message is to hang in there. You will get through this, come what may.

Ask yourself, is this issue worth fighting for? Does it matter so much to you that you are willing to take a stand, with no thought of what the personal cost may be? If so, then stand firm, be prepared, draw upon the reserves of tenacity and confidence within you, and fight like hell for what’s right.

But if it’s not an issue worth fighting for, if the fight will cause more problems in the long term than it will solve? Then it is time to just accept the possibility that it is just one of those days. That this is one more challenge on your journey to your dreams, and that you can get past this and move on to more important things, remembering that this will pass in time.

Embracing feelings, inspiration, getting creative

Artist Interpretation

A space kitty sits alone on a quiet crater filled planet, and as stars light up the night sky, the sound of ships can be heard flying overhead. All of a sudden another sound… more quiet then the ships… something is approaching! A flying golden cup appears! To the cat’s surprise, up pops a messenger of sorts which, unexpectedly seems to be speaking to the space kitty, bringing a feeling of inspiration.

The Card’s Message by Trish Sullivan

When this card appears in a reading, it is advising you to embrace your inner child and get back to the sentimentality of youth, before life got in the way and brought cynicism to your soul. Don’t just listen to your heart, but let it run away with you!

Embrace an opportunity to see the world in all its beauty, wonder at the shape of a cloud and let your imagination take over for a short while. Find time to appreciate life as a miracle that pulls at your heartstrings and fills your eyes with tears. Enjoy the chance to truly feel, without worries and lists of endless chores pulling you away. Do something fun that makes you laugh until you cry! Shake free of the restrictions and detachment that come with adulthood.

The Page of Cups can represent a young person currently in your life, or someone young at heart who is coming into your life soon. Someone who brings you opportunities for love and emotion, who moves you and encourages you to get out in nature and go with your gut. To accept your sensitivity and appreciate your feelings, experience the world with your heart open to each and every emotion that it provokes.

But be aware that with heightened emotion, and an open heart, you’re in a position to feel more pain, too.
