THE CARD’S STORY BY: MONIKA PTOK-BYARD
This past summer I got to visit a friend’s vineyard and learn all about wine and the plants and what it takes to grow them. It inspired me to say the least and I decided to make the Nine of Pentacles a Green Man (or a Green Woman in this case). This is a card about being self-sufficient, enjoying the luxury of what you have and how hard you have worked for it, so this Green Woman is basking in her own growth, her lush leaves and growing grapes.
THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN
Satisfied, even proud, a Green Woman looks out on the fruits of her labors. She has tended the vines, and now the harvest is more than even she ever expected. A falcon perches at her head, content and controlled, a symbol of her intellectual power. There’s always more you could be doing, but that doesn’t mean you should. You need downtime, to treat yourself, to remind yourself of the reasons WHY you work so hard. So stop, and relax, take the time to celebrate your achievements, to enjoy the success and independence that you’ve earned, secure in the knowledge that as long as you continue to work hard, you will continue to be able to treat yourself on occasion.
MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: GREEN MAN (WOMAN)
Dating back as far as ancient Roman architecture, there are many depictions of the Green Man in relation to Dionysus the leaf-crowned lord of the wilderness. These leaf-faced figures are thought to represent nature spirits and deities from a range of mythologies, including the folklore figures celebrated on May Day in Europe, the Celtic nature god Cernuous, and Pan in Greek mythology. Th e fruitfulness of this figure, with leaves literally covering his (or in this case her) face made us feel that she was an ideal image for this card.

Card of the Day – 9 of Pentacles – Thursday, June 13, 2019
A little hard work is definitely good for the soul, and even the bank account. Above all, it increases one’s sense of self-worth, for nothing feels better than knowing you accomplished something all in your own. Independence is a beautiful thing, even for those who serve as half of a committed relationship. Getting your hustle on today under the Scorpio Moon can definitely help you in your quest for a new and more comfortable identity.
Venus makes a couple of aspects today and Venus is all about the luxury represented in this card. If you are thinking of treating yourself to something special as a reward for all your hard work, be sure to do so before the 20th, when Mercury will enter the shadow phase of its second retrograde for 2019.

Card of the Day – 9 of Pentacles – Wednesday, February 13, 2019
Here we are, the day before Valentine’s Day, no Lovers card, no 2 of Cups, no Knight or Ace of Cups. The 9 of Pentacles holds a valuable message and reminder for all during this month of love. Independence, self-worth, treating oneself to the creature comforts are part of the plan with this card. I like to call it the identity card. Who do you deem yourself to be? How do you treat you?
At a time when so many tend to be preoccupied with whether or not there is a great love in their life, this is a great time to be in love with yourself. The strong individual, who is capable of standing on their own two feet, stands a better chance of being in a viable, committed relationship with someone who appreciates their individuality, and does not try to change them, or mold them in any way. This is a two-way street after all; it is not just the women. Both sides of any great partnership will work more smoothly when two people are able to be together and yet not live in one another’s shadow.

Welcome to November! The energies are intense and transformative as the month begins, begging the question “Who are you?” If there was ever a time where your intended identity might come into focus, this is it. The 9 of Pentacles is all about who you are as an individual and your ability to stand on your own two feet…or not.
With Venus still retrograde through November 16, and having moved back into home sign of Libra yesterday, your very worth may be on your mind. It does not necessarily need to be how much you have in the bank to provide your creature comforts, but, rather how you feel within your own self. I always say the most powerful relationships are formed by those who do not lose their identity to another, instead maintaining a balance of self. This type of independence as a person can aid one in building stronger, longer-lasting relationships.

Card of the Day – 9 of Pentacles – Monday, August 27, 2018
What an adorable 9 of Pentacles from a deck-in-progress by Joanna Nelson Studio, titled ‘Whispering Spirits’. If you will be in the Denver, Colorado area September 7 through 9, you can stop by the Body, Mind and Spirit Expo at the Denver Mart, and meet both Joanna Nelson and Kayti Stewart (a/k/a Kayti Creator), both of 78 Tarot fame. They will have plenty of artwork, goodies, and Tarot items with them for your perusal.
As we bask in the glow of the Pisces Full Moon, and enjoy the vibe of the Grand Earth Trine, with the Sun in Virgo, Saturn in Capricorn, and Uranus in Taurus, I am not sure if I could have chosen a better card for today. Pentacles are, after all, the Earth suit, and the 9 of Pentacles, is basking in all of your comforts and luxuries and those things which make you, you.
This is a card of identity, urging you to be yourself, stand on your own two feet, embrace your uniqueness, and be an independent individual who is comfortable within their own skin, not requiring another to validate their mere existence. You have entered that part of your journey, which is one of self-discovery, all while pursuing your hopes and dreams. This is the part where you get to learn who you truly are, and who you are truly meant to be.
