Card of the Day – The Devil – Wednesday, May 15, 2019

Posted on Updated on

However many years may be involved likely varies from one individual to another, but this turning point, it has arrived, and it is time to set yourself free. Parts of the old life can not co-exist with the new life which awaits you by the Solstice, so being released from what has been holding you back has to be a welcome feeling, no matter how scary it may feel. Free will is at work here, and by choosing not to continue in any patterns, situations, or relationships, which may be construed as self-destructive, is a step toward freedom and higher ground.

The Devil card not only covers free will, but all of the addictions and temptations which confront us all on a daily basis. Sometimes, they are not that apparent, so it is easy to simply continue, but, now, at this time, comes the recognition that remaining chained to something is preventing you from having your best life. Go ahead, free yourself…turns out you are not as stuck as you may think.

See you here tomorrow!

Card of the Day – The Devil – Sunday, April 21, 2019

Posted on Updated on

What do you do that holds you back from being the best version of you that you can be?  There is some form of self-sabotage going on here, and the time has come to break out of those old ways.  The Devil represents addictions, temptations, frustrations, feeling trapped, and, above all, your free will, and your ability to extricate yourself from situations that bind.

So, what do you do?  For some, it may be as obvious as diet, exercise, drugs, alcohol, internet, and the like, but for others it may be far less tangible, and much more about you being set in your ways.  Old patterns need to be broken now; it is highly likely that you are aware of them, but necessary for you to begin actually choosing to break them in your own best interest.

See you here tomorrow!

THE CARD’S STORY BY ENYS GUERRERO

For this card I’m using a faun as the Mythical element. I chose the faun because it was the first image that was used (and also stolen from the pagans) to represent The Devil. This card is ruled by Capricorn so the “goat” image on her, I think is the best option for the card. The plush around her, are prisoners and in chains in bondage to the material and sensual side of their nature. They have also syringes and razor blades, representing the lowest and most harmful passions and addictions. To represent the dark side of the magic on this card, I drew into the background a big bloody inverted pentacle.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

A faun sits, scarred and bruised, her clothes suggesting that she has been through an ordeal. But the only battle she is fighting is with herself – plushies are chained before her, needles and paraphernalia evident around, but she herself is free. It’s all too easy to give into short term fixes – comfort food when feeling stressed, or a few glasses of alcohol to take the edge off a hard day. But they often cause more heartache in the end, making you feel worse as your guilt rises. Instead, consider the future benefits of rising above the distractions. How much better you will feel for not bowing to obsession, and take meaningful action towards improving your life for the long term.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION

FAUN

In ancient Greek mythology, a faun is a fantastical creature with the legs of a goat, but the top half of a human, oft en depicted with goat’s horns. Th e most famous of these was the god Pan, a rustic god with a reputation for chasing nymphs and giving into his sexual urges. With the obvious parallel of the goat horns to the horned god that is oft en used to represent the Devil, we felt that this female faun, also driven by “baser” needs would make a perfect Devil.

Card of the Day – The Devil – Thursday, January 10, 2019

Posted on Updated on

It never ceases to amaze me how the cards line up with the skies. We are approaching an aspect, occurring tomorrow, where the Sun will conjunct Pluto. The Sun is a positive life force, and Pluto is all about transformation. And, today’s card is all about you.

The energies are perfect to break some firmly-rooted habits, for very often you may be prone to self-sabotage. It can be as simple as eating the chocolate cake, or a little more complicated, where you are in the habit of repeating certain ways of doing, or not doing things, thus preventing yourself from making the progress you desire. You have free will to choose to do differently and free yourself from the shackles of your mind. Avoid the temptation.

See you here tomorrow!

Featured Card of the Day – The Devil – New Babylonian Tarot by Roxana Paul

Posted on Updated on

Artist: Roxana Paul

Website: http://www.roxanapaul.com

Artist Interpretation

The devil in the image of a half-man and half-bull stands in a flaming magic circle with a pentagram. He tempests and seems is about to break the chains that restrain him. He is Galla, a demon, closest to the devil image of the Babylonian mythology.

Among the devils and evil spirits of Babylon, the Galla (Gallu) or bull demon, had specific characteristics of a half- humans and half-bull. That horrible creature roamed the streets of Babylon at nights, hiding in dark corners and deserted places and searching for victims. In Sumerian “Galla” meant “tempest.”

Card Meaning

The Devil represents a blind and tempest force, and a limited belief of existence only in the material world. If you prefer to serve him, you will be lost because his way is a way of darkness where demonic powers prevail, creating confusion and disorder. The Devil is a skillful seducer and manipulator, tempting and persuading you to follow the ignorant path of materialism. Following the Devil, you choose the dark side of the material world: hedonism, all kinds of addiction and self-indulgence, as well as violence. Be aware of self-destruction during this path. You are free whether to succumb to the Devil who manipulates others and uses their weaknesses for own goals, or you resist egotistic impulses and basic instincts.
