THE CARD’S STORY BY: FRANK FRADELLA

Growing up, I was obsessed with Greek and Norse mythology, and when asked to contribute, that was my first instinct. But I knew that the pantheons were well-represented, and wanted to stretch myself. Last year I had seen a group of men at a wedding do the Haka dance of the Maori and I found it incredibly moving, so I dug into their mythos and found an amazingly rich culture that I was excited to represent. Ragni was the sky father, and swords being the suit of the air, it was a perfect fit.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

Ragni stands on a rocky outcrop. His son, Tāwhirimātea’s lightning fueling him, he is able to be on ground for now. He could use this power to harm the children who sent him to the sky, but he doesn’t. Instead, he relishes the time he can be with his wife. Let your head take charge over your heart. Don’t rush in, reacting to instinct or passion, but instead consider your options carefully. Take advice, do your research and weigh up the consequences. Then make a choice, confident that you have done all you need, and that you’re sure that you are making an informed decision, based on facts, and facts alone. King of Swords can represent an analytical, logical person in your life, or one arriving soon. They are honest and fair, constantly demanding (and giving) the best.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: RANGINUI

In Maori mythology Ranginui & Papatūānuku are the primordial forces of creation, literally father-Sky & Mother Earth, separated by their children who force them apart so that they might dwell in the light, with their father above them whilst they live nurtured by their mother. Being forced to live separated from each other causes the Gods great anguish. Unable to live with what his siblings have done to their parents, Tāwhirimātea, the god of storms, makes war upon his brothers and destroys them until he battles his brother Tu, whom he cannot overcome. Eventually the two of them come together and Tu, who represents humanity eats the remaining children of Sky Father & Earth Mother finally bringing peace.

Tarot Card of the Day – King of Swords – Tuesday, June 11, 2019

Posted on Updated on

For almost three years now, the presence of this King has not been a pleasant one at all.  He always seems to embody the negative side of the King of Swords, that being the narcissist, the bully, the liar, and manipulator, just to name a few.  As an individual, when this card shows up with its negative aspects, this really is not someone with whom you would wish to associate.

However, today’s Moon in air-sign Libra, seeks balance and justice, allowing the positive side of this King of Air to come forth and be used for its highest power.  And, indeed he is power, especially intellectual prowess, being put to good use.  Honesty and forthrightness are a real thing and actually possible.  Mental clarity makes things, not only easier to understand, but ultimately facilitated with the greatest of ease.  Take that sword and cut through it all, bringing organization to all that is before you,.

See you here tomorrow!

Card of the Day – King of Swords – Tuesday, March 19, 2019

Posted on Updated on

For more than two years now, this card has been acquiring a bad reputation. Let us see if we can put a more positive spin on it today, the last day of the astrological year.

This guy is known for his organizational prowess and mental agility, when he is behaving himself. Under today’s Virgo Moon, he can help you organize things before tomorrow’s big energy shift. This feels more preparatory than anything, making certain you have things in order will prove to be helpful.

We are approaching a Full Moon, this one is a Supermoon in Libra, at the critical 0°. Do be wary of people in your space who may speak less than truth, or spike their words with criticism.

See you here tomorrow!

Featured Card of the Day – King of Swords – Crow Tarot by M.J. Cullinane

Posted on Updated on

Artist: M.J. Cullinane

Website: www.enchanteddecks.com

Card Meaning

The King of Swords is a strategic and logical crow. Using methodical steps and processes, he is the one who figures out how to get food out of a lidded jar. Hist strength and poise set him apart from the flock. This bird is comfortable in the role of leader but is not power hungry. The energy of the King of Swords will bring a prudent and clear vision of success to the situation. The King may enter as a trusted advisor or may indicate that you are a source of reliable information that will benefit others.

Card of the Day – King of Swords – Monday, February 25, 2019

Posted on Updated on

Our King of Swords today possesses the mental clarity to go forth and cut right through all of the bs, in order to get the job done.  This is a very organizational mode, and great for clearing away any cluttered areas of your life.  Rather than being ruled by emotional attachments, the King of Swords relies upon his intellect to help him see his projects through to fruition.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, this guy can be one of the most vile people you have ever met, the narcissist, the bully, always demeaning and critical of everything.  If there is such a person in your midst, do not give him, or her, the time of day.  Trying to prove them wrong only feeds their ego.  Block and delete; do not engage.  If you do not entertain their nonsense, they will move on and find someone else to bother.

Card of the Day – King of Swords – Wednesday, January 2, 2019

Posted on Updated on

Oh boy!  With Mars now in Aries, and eclipse season upon us, this is not the guy we want to see!  We are only three days from the New Moon Partial Solar Eclipse in Capricorn,   The King of Swords can, like Mars in Aries, be extremely aggressive.  Tendencies toward bullying, criticism, and narcissism are also part of his less pleasing traits.  Normally, it is the Queen of Swords who makes an appearance near a New Moon, but the King’s tongue can be way more vicious.

Hopefully not everyone has to deal with the wrath of such an unpleasant individual.  The King of Swords does have positive characteristics, the most redeeming being his intellect and sharp wit.  He can be organized and keep his priorities in order, without forming emotional attachments which can get in the way of his success.  He speaks with truth and clarity, unlike his negative side, who can be someone ill-informed, who generally speaks without thinking as to consequences.

See you here tomorrow!

Featured Card of the Day – King of Swords – New Babylonian Tarot by Roxana Paul

Artist: Roxana Paul

Website: www.roxanapaul.com

Keywords

Power, authority. Being knowledgeable, applying reason and logic.

Artist Interpretation

A king sits on the big throne decorated with a bull’s head and two crossed swords. He holds a sword in his right hand and a globe in his left hand. Two similar statues of Ishtar stand on the pedestals on the both sides of the throne. A shield on which a chariot is depicted sits on the floor at the throne. All elements of the picture have metaphorical meanings: Ishtar in the context of this card personalizes war and political power, and the Chariot has the meaning of directed and controlled mental power. The glob in the king’s hand also a symbol of power.

Card of the Day – King of Swords – Friday, September 14, 2018

Posted on Updated on

Today I feel as though this King comes with a bit of caution; whether it be male or female, there could very well be someone in your midst who simply becomes unhinged. Perhaps you see it around you, or even in the news, but you will definitely stand up and take notice. Do not let it be you. Typically, we are always seeing the Queen near a New or Full Moon, and this guy does not make as many appearances. There are some narcissistic tendencies here, as well as bullying and being extremely critical, and downright nasty in some cases.

Enough of that guy! Let us remind ourselves what the positive side of this King of Swords can be. He is an intellectual and extremely organized. He, or she, possesses the mental clarity to accomplish their goals without emotion or drama being part of the equation. There is a no BS stance being taken here, and a resolve to clear one’s path with a flick of the sword. This does not necessarily make an individual cold and calculating, it merely means they can approach the task at hand with a resolve that allows the mind to lead them rather than the heart.

See you here tomorrow!
