Artist Interpretation

A massive bolt of lightning comes out of nowhere and hits the tree hard, causing a great shake, cracking branches and all its inhabitants to go falling to the earth. Some hang on as long as possible as others go tumbling headfirst. Regardless, morning brings change and the beginning of time to rebuild.

Card Meaning

Change is coming. It’s being forced upon you in a way that shakes you to your very core. But, like the Death card, this is a spiritual, not a physical upheaval – your tree is not really about to break. This bolt of lightning signifies the rather brutal change that you now face, the destruction of false foundations on which you’ve built security. Its loss is painful, but not terminal – you can and will rebuild and you will be stronger for it.
