THE CARD’S STORY BY: JEN LIGHTFOOT

I chose to interpret the Greek myth of lovers Alcyone and Ceyx. Their story is a tragic story about love, grief, and hope. Ceyx went out to sea to consult the oracle of Delphi, even though Alcyone pleaded with him not to go. During his journey a storm came and poor Ceyx drowned. He told Alcyone of his death in a dream. She rushed out to find him washed up on the shore. Wrapping her arms around him, they started to form wings and he came back to life. They lived out their lives together as seabirds. I chose to depict Alcyone and Ceyx as a lesbian couple in my artwork for the Three of Swords card, which is a card that represents sadness, heartbreak, separation, and grief — all emotions which the Alcyone and Ceyx myth conveys.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

The Lovers Alcyone and Ceyx, here both depicted in the feminine, begin their transformation into birds following their rebirth. Wings sprout from their backs as they embrace, to begin their new life together. It hurts right now, sometimes more than you think you can withstand…and if anyone else tells you about fish in the sea, or life not being fair, you might explode. Stop putting so much pressure on yourself – you need time to heal, so give yourself that time. Let the tears flow, let them gradually wash away your sadness. In time, you’ll be able to rise above this, you’ll see that there is still hope out there. This won’t break you. Nothing can. Use this to make you stronger.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: CEYX AND ALCYONE

In Greek mythology, the tragedy of Alcyone and Ceyx began with them referring to themselves as Zeus and Hera. Th is angered Zeus, and he destroyed Ceyx’s ship. Ceyx appeared to Alcyone to in a dream to tell her what happened, and in grief Alcyone threw herself into the sea. The Gods then returned them to life, to live as birds, together forever. With grief and loss being such a major part of this myth, this was a perfect representation of the energy of this card.

Card of the Day – 3 of Swords – Friday, April 26, 2019

Posted on Updated on

There may be those who seemingly lead such a charmed life, but there is no one who can say that they have not experienced some form of heartbreak or betrayal.  The 3 of Swords is in the top three on most people’s list of feared cards of the Tarot.  It need not be that way.  If you allow yourself to be consumed by it, the pain wins.

This 3 of Swords comes to you today, urging you to release the heartache and hurts of your past, in order to move forward to a brighter, more joyful, future.  Rather than those storm clouds remaining hanging over your head, it is time for them to part, wash away all that is negative, and separate yourself from it.  They simply can not exist together; release the pain, and embrace the positive.

See you here tomorrow!

Card of the Day – 3 Of Swords – Wednesday, October 10, 2018

Posted on Updated on

If you’ve been following along here for a while, then you probably know that the Tarot Card of the Day is not some random pull here. When you line them up, one after the other, they tell a story. Today’s 3 of Swords falls in line after a 3 of Cups and a Wheel of Fortune; Monday’s leadup to the New Moon in Libra brought with it some form of celebration. Tuesday’s Wheel of Fortune brings just that, a twist of fate, a change of luck, and a turn of the Wheel.

Today, the 3 of Swords, while I like seeing it come out before the 3 of Cups, represents a form of separation, if you will. This so-called separation is basically a release. If you Google 3 of Swords cards, you will typically see three swords piercing a heart, parting clouds and rain. Things are changing now, this is not meant to be a sad or bad card; rather, it is meant to be one that restores optimism, through the release of some form of painful experience. Those storm clouds are breaking, the clouds are parting, and no longer is the betrayal you have suffered at the hands of the Universe hanging over your head. Look for the good today, my friends. It is there; do not let your hopes and dreams be defeated. Remain optimistic and know that everything changes.

See you here tomorrow!

Card of the Day – 3 of Swords – Sunday, June 24, 2018

Posted on Updated on

Ah! If you have been following along on a daily basis, then you will know that I have been pulling some of the most feared cards in all of Tarot. However, do not fear, as they are here to see some much needed change; our 3 of Swords today has been preceded by both the Death card and the Tower card this week. That is some pretty powerful energy. Without getting into the whole astrological side of this weekend, let’s just say it is time. Take a good look at today’s gentle 3 of Swords image by Joanna Nelson Studio; it speaks volumes.

As we approach the Full Moon in Capricorn, just a few short days away, the timing of this card could not be more apt. The time has come to deal with something which perhaps conjures up painful feelings…i.e., actually doing something with those divorce papers. Only you know what it is you may need to face. Notice our figure in the Whispering Spirits Tarot is reaching out to touch one of the swords. There is no blood, there is no pain, that all occurred long ago. In other words now it is not as difficult to broach a painful subject in your life and deal with whatever it is you need to do. Full Moons, and the 3 of Swords, remind us to let go, and the time is here to just do it

See you here tomorrow!

Card of the Day – 3 of Swords – Tuesday, January 23, 2018

Posted on Updated on

What a beautiful rendition of this card! I know so many of you feel it can only be negative, but that is so not the case. There is some form of letting go taking place here, and I feel it comes through separating yourself from the painful memories of the hard times. Often indicative of betrayals, so many of you have felt betrayed, if not by people, by the very Universe itself, for a while now. That has all been trying to change, primarily because you have been working so hard to change it. Does this mean that the 3 of Cups is not far behind? Stay tuned! Separations and celebrations, certainly removing yourself from a situation which has caused you pain will want to give way to a moment of joy.

Also, bear in mind that we are now in eclipse season, and only eight days away from the Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse in Leo on the 31st. The 3 of Swords is very much an eclipse card. Life changes, people come, and people go, situations change, doors open and close. In other words, if you feel as though something, or someone, in your life is being eclipsed, know that the Universe has a plan. There will be a move to open that next door. This is a very positive eclipse season, so even something as traumatic as the loss of a job can only mean something better is in the wind.

Allow the changes to wash over you, like walking outside in the fresh air after a gentle rain. There is a clearing taking place now, meant to bring positive manifestations your way. Keep mid-April on your radar.

See you here tomorrow!

Featured Card of the Day – 3 of Swords – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Posted on Updated on

Artist:  Scott Holloway

Website:  www.paintingloft.com

Keywords

Loss, betrayal, sorrow

Artist Interpretation

This painting is about heart break and betrayal. It is a self-portrait in a way about betrayal that has occurred in my life. I was betrayed. Going with the “Astral” theme I decided to insert the astral sky inside the swords that may suggest that the betrayal was destined to happen. The galaxy willed it. The person that betrayed me was also an artist. She painted landscapes and skyscapes. I’ve inserted 3 different aspects that talk about that. The landscape on the bottom left is of a popular reservoirs that she painted and that we frequented. The cliff on the bottom right is of a Sedona, AZ cliff. It was the place where we got married. I have purposely left these places without color as they are now “dead to me”. I hold no love for either of these places anymore. As I said, she also painted skyscapes as well. I’ve decided to use color in the sky however because the sky is always changing or evolving. The locations in the landscapes don’t change though.

The landscape has some rain falling down upon it. I want this element to be either seen as good or bad. Either harsh weather or (if you observe where it’s raining) beneficial as it’s raining on the hill that has vegetation.

Card Meaning

When this card appears, it’s seems like it’s giving you news you don’t need – that life isn’t fair, but you are acutely aware of that right now. You’re already feeling let down, even betrayed, and unable to turn to anyone to ask for help. But this card offers hope. It’s true that nothing can take the pain away, but you can try to look beyond it. To use the tears you shed as a way to wash away the hurt and begin to heal you. It’s a time of sadness and loss, and unfortunately, you can’t avoid it. Instead, use this anguish, let the tears fall and help you heal as they do. You won’t break, and you will come out of this stronger.

Featured Card of the Day – 3 of Swords – Joie de Vivre Tarot by Paulina Cassidy

Posted on Updated on

Artist:  Paulina Cassidy

Website:  www.paulina.ws

Keywords

Repair, conflict, focus, disappointment, clarity.

Artist Interpretation

Embracing a heart punctured by three swords, it’s time for gloomy Chagrin to rest so that he can rebuild his energies. Guided by his inner-voice of revelation, Chagrin finds comfort in focusing on the beauty of the candlelight. The heartfelt process of repair has begun.

Card Meaning

Through sorrow’s shadow comes release, and the only way out is through. The arrival of new and better actions to replace old ones may not have otherwise occurred without the transformation pain brings. In the midst of moving toward the light at the end of the tunnel, you begin the process of healing, obtaining clarity and strength along the path of recovery.

Reversed

Continual dwelling upon past traumas. Loneliness. Mental disorder.
