3 of Swords

Card of the Day – 3 of Swords – Sunday, November 10, 2019

Posted on Updated on

If you ask anyone who has ever owned a Tarot deck, or had a Tarot reading, which cards they love, and which cards they hate, the 3 of Swords would rank very high up on the list of the latter.  I am not certain how, over the centuries, the interpretation of this card has taken on such a negative connotation, but the 3 of Swords does get a bad rep which is greatly undeserved.

As we approach the very positive Full Moon occurring in two days at 19° Taurus, the time has come for purge and release.  Indeed, should you associate this depiction with pain, heartache, and suffering, even betrayal, then the time has come to let it go.  Allow there to be healing, even through separation and elimination, once you remove what is painful, there will one day be a cause for celebration.  You are destined to be so much more than you are at this moment in time.  Release what is hurting you, and holding you back in a painful way, in order to allow positive moments to flow into your life more freely.  To hear my Tarot Card of the Day audio, on time, every day, in a consistent fashion, go to your AppStore and download the free PodBean app and follow me there, or any other podcast platform of your choosing.  This is the earliest possible heads up available to hear my daily reading.

See you here tomorrow!

Card of the Day – 3 of Swords – Thursday, September 26, 2019

Posted on Updated on

Throughout life, many types of pain are felt, and each individual experiences each type of pain differently.  There is physical pain, brought on by injury, mental pain, suffered through stress and anxiety, the labor of giving birth, heart attack, emotional pain brought about due to betrayal.  As you can see, the list is rather lengthy, and, no doubt, you have fallen victim to at least one of these.

Many see the 3 of Swords and consider it to be an omen of some heartbreaking, fateful event befalling them, but, in truth, this card refers to the release of it.  Allowing the Universe to wash it away, and you just letting it go can do wonders for you.  If you have peeked at this week’s cards, then you will know that this most-feared 3 of Swords is followed by none other than the Magician.  Let the magic begin this week, and release that which has caused you pain, so that you can begin to heal.

See you here tomorrow!

Card Meaning

The crow watches his partner fly away. The three swords puncturing the heart represents the two crows and the issue that resulted in separation. The Three of Swords represents a time of sadness and loss, however, without sorrow we would never understand true happiness, and without loss, we would not appreciate all we have. There is no avoiding the sadness of the energy released by the Three of Swords, but this situation also offers a valuable life lesson, one that is essential for growth. This cards asks that you take steps to learn how to heal your heart and your soul.

Card of the Day – 3 of Swords (Bells) – Wednesday, August 7, 2019

Posted on Updated on

I can just hear the expletives rolling off of your tongues right now.  This card, the 3 of Swords, gets a bad reputation, primarily because people fixate on the heartache and betrayal that it can sometimes represent.  But, that is most definitely not the case today, in fact, it is quite the opposite.  The time has come to release the pain.  I keep telling you every day, this is one of the most important times of your life thus far, however, you may not totally realize this just yet.

Today, the Universe is serving up its most glorious aspect, the Sun trine Jupiter, and, as a rare, extra special treat, the Sun is at home in Leo, and Jupiter is at home in Sagittarius.  It truly does not get any better than this.  Optimism is the word of the day.  When you Google images of the 3 of Swords, the most typical version shows 3 swords piercing a heart, and yes, that does indeed look quite painful.  What is overlooked by most is the stormy background, and the fact that the clouds are parting, giving way to better days, and healing.  It is time to release the pain, and begin to move forward toward your hopes and dreams…your real hopes and dreams, not just the survival mode to which you have become accustomed.  This week has two beautiful Jupiter aspects on offer, followed by Jupiter turning direct on the 11th.  Allow the positive to flow to you today, and make room in your heart and soul for all of the wonderful things which will be coming your way.

See you here tomorrow!

THE CARD’S STORY BY: JEN LIGHTFOOT

I chose to interpret the Greek myth of lovers Alcyone and Ceyx. Their story is a tragic story about love, grief, and hope. Ceyx went out to sea to consult the oracle of Delphi, even though Alcyone pleaded with him not to go. During his journey a storm came and poor Ceyx drowned. He told Alcyone of his death in a dream. She rushed out to find him washed up on the shore. Wrapping her arms around him, they started to form wings and he came back to life. They lived out their lives together as seabirds. I chose to depict Alcyone and Ceyx as a lesbian couple in my artwork for the Three of Swords card, which is a card that represents sadness, heartbreak, separation, and grief — all emotions which the Alcyone and Ceyx myth conveys.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

The Lovers Alcyone and Ceyx, here both depicted in the feminine, begin their transformation into birds following their rebirth. Wings sprout from their backs as they embrace, to begin their new life together. It hurts right now, sometimes more than you think you can withstand…and if anyone else tells you about fish in the sea, or life not being fair, you might explode. Stop putting so much pressure on yourself – you need time to heal, so give yourself that time. Let the tears flow, let them gradually wash away your sadness. In time, you’ll be able to rise above this, you’ll see that there is still hope out there. This won’t break you. Nothing can. Use this to make you stronger.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: CEYX AND ALCYONE

In Greek mythology, the tragedy of Alcyone and Ceyx began with them referring to themselves as Zeus and Hera. Th is angered Zeus, and he destroyed Ceyx’s ship. Ceyx appeared to Alcyone to in a dream to tell her what happened, and in grief Alcyone threw herself into the sea. The Gods then returned them to life, to live as birds, together forever. With grief and loss being such a major part of this myth, this was a perfect representation of the energy of this card.

Card of the Day – 3 of Swords – Friday, April 26, 2019

Posted on Updated on

There may be those who seemingly lead such a charmed life, but there is no one who can say that they have not experienced some form of heartbreak or betrayal.  The 3 of Swords is in the top three on most people’s list of feared cards of the Tarot.  It need not be that way.  If you allow yourself to be consumed by it, the pain wins.

This 3 of Swords comes to you today, urging you to release the heartache and hurts of your past, in order to move forward to a brighter, more joyful, future.  Rather than those storm clouds remaining hanging over your head, it is time for them to part, wash away all that is negative, and separate yourself from it.  They simply can not exist together; release the pain, and embrace the positive.

Card of the Day – 3 Of Swords – Wednesday, October 10, 2018

Posted on Updated on

If you’ve been following along here for a while, then you probably know that the Tarot Card of the Day is not some random pull here. When you line them up, one after the other, they tell a story. Today’s 3 of Swords falls in line after a 3 of Cups and a Wheel of Fortune; Monday’s leadup to the New Moon in Libra brought with it some form of celebration. Tuesday’s Wheel of Fortune brings just that, a twist of fate, a change of luck, and a turn of the Wheel.

Today, the 3 of Swords, while I like seeing it come out before the 3 of Cups, represents a form of separation, if you will. This so-called separation is basically a release. If you Google 3 of Swords cards, you will typically see three swords piercing a heart, parting clouds and rain. Things are changing now, this is not meant to be a sad or bad card; rather, it is meant to be one that restores optimism, through the release of some form of painful experience. Those storm clouds are breaking, the clouds are parting, and no longer is the betrayal you have suffered at the hands of the Universe hanging over your head. Look for the good today, my friends. It is there; do not let your hopes and dreams be defeated. Remain optimistic and know that everything changes.

See you here tomorrow!
