Artist Interpretation

As soon as I am given my card I immediately start exploring, learning and trying to understand its meaning. And with this particular card I felt a strong connection, it resonated with me. And I believe it is a card that would hold meaning for most of us at some time in our lives.

My connection with the Nine of Wands was immediate, I pictured a solitary warrior, soldier. A neon beauty from a far galaxy. She has fought a long battle and although weary, she is ready to continue if needed.

We all have faced difficult times, faced trials we thought too difficult to overcome. This card appears to tell us to persevere and not give up.

Card Meaning

An alien warrior stands, looking wearing and fatigued, a staff in her hand, her wand, containing her power, her weapon to use as and when she needs. Eight more wands hurtle toward her – her fight is not yet won. Resigned but ready, she turns to face the onslaught…

When this card appears in a reading, it’s time to regroup and prepare. Think about how far you have come, and how much you have learned on the way. Consider how much you’ve endured to get to this point, and how much stronger it has made you. You’ve been working so hard for so long that you are weary, but don’t doubt yourself or your capabilities and experience through tiredness. You’ve got this. You’re prepared for this, and the end IS in sight. Give yourself a break – take a bit of time, to rest and recover. Reclaim your motivation and focus. Recharge your mental and spiritual energies and then dig deep into the wells of stamina and resilience that you possess. Harness your inner strength and dive right back in.

Featured Card of the Day – King of Wands – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Artist:  Mike Tenebrae

Artist Interpretation

The astral theme was very appealing to me, as I got a chance to draw up a cool robotic armor suit and indulge in my love of retro-80s futuristic themes. I wanted to create a figure that looked intimidating, but without being menacing. As he is a king, he does not engage much in manual tasks so the suit is really more about aesthetics. I drew inspiration from anime, mech design and space Lego! My original concept was to be more of a regal cloaked figure, it then went to a kind of mobile living fortress (something like the SDF 1 from Robotech) before I finally combined the two into one design. I would like to leave it ambiguous as to whether there is a person wearing the suit, driving the mech or whether it is a sentient machine. His wand is a combination of a scepter and a staff. With its galaxy globe hinting at the potential of power that is waiting to be released.

Card Meaning

When this card appears in a reading, it is suggesting that it’s time to take charge. Do not be led by others, but instead forge forward on your own path. Your passion and originality will not steer you wrong!! You have the desire, drive and strength you need, just keep focus and don’t allow negativity to affect you. Consult with those who share your vision, work with them enthusiastically and don’t be afraid to lead them when called upon. Rather than waste your time dealing with naysayers who may sap your energy, and try to push you in a direction you’re not happy with.

The King of Wands can also signify an innovative, commanding figure that is in your life currently, or coming into it soon. A born leader, someone unafraid to stand in the spotlight and command, sure of himself and of all his actions and decisions. Offering you a chance to manifest the results you want.

Featured Card of the Day – 7 of Swords – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Artist:  Eli Neugeboren

Artist Interpretation

Seven of Swords is traditionally depicted as a figure with a handful of pilfered swords, and irate townspeople off in the distance. It is associated with trying to get away with something, deception, and betrayal. I spent a lot of time developing the main figure, and was very inspired by the mage-cyborg character from the animated short, “Adam” (Unity, 2016). The habitats in the background stand in for the traditional townsfolk, and the swords are some kind of cybernetic hybrid machete, standing scattered in the ground behind our mysterious space warrior-mage. Far off in the background is an orbital habitat, aloof from our hero’s problems.

Card Meaning

A futuristic mech stands, sword in hand, six more weapons behind him. In the distance there are raised dwellings, but no one follows him. He has snuck away with these weapons, leaving his people less defended, and a satellite approaches, but we cannot condemn him completely, his motives are not yet clear.

When this card appears in a reading, it’s time to take a good, hard look at yourself and what you’re doing. You’re making a break from tradition and going out on your own. But are you making things worse for yourself, and others? Are you being independent, or are you running away? We all need solitude from time to time, but on the other side of the coin, collaboration and teamwork can help us move forward. You need to work this through and decide where your motives truly lie. It’s time to be honest with yourself, face the facts and start behaving differently to improve the future. By hiding away and procrastinating, you certainly aren’t helping yourself, or anyone else.

Featured Card of the Day – 4 of Pentacles – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Artist Interpretation

I wanted my card to look like a vintage sci-fi novel cover. Symbolically I had a hard time relating to this card. I don’t like being tied down in life, by things especially. I am a big risk taker, always looking as I leap so I think it’s safe to say I am used to a life that is not full of stability. The way I interpret it is that the figure has her earthly responsibilities, and that is actually a positive thing, to have things to care about. She is floating above, transcending the physical at the same time. I think this card is about balancing the physical and spiritual. Not getting tied down physically or spiritually/mentally with a lot of unnecessary things/ideas/emotions. Being a fly by the seat of my pants kind of person it can be hard for me to see that stability and responsibility are not always bad, not shackles tying you down unless you let them. You can rise above and accept the good in that and let the rest go.

Card Meaning

An alien princess has travelled away from the vast city where she rules. She hovers above a pentacle, clasping more to her chest, but she has paused, surrounded by her wealth, holding onto it, but doing nothing with it. Not growing, or developing, not using it, or enjoying it. But just hoarding it.

When this card appears in a reading, it’s time for balance. Keeping an eye on your finances is always a good plan, money does not, after all, grow on trees. But when that financial caution makes you feel guilty for spending any money, or enjoying the rewards you work so hard for, it’s gone too far. Life is to be lived. Trying to exercise too much control can give you tunnel vision. It can make you erect walls around yourself, isolating you from the world. Make sure you control your money, rather than letting it control you.

Artist Interpretation

In my artwork, an enormous metallic angel stands as the symbol of humanity, a mega structure created by a glorious civilization. Both male and female is guarding our Earth in its mechanical womb while the Moon circles around its strong arms, a surreal image of balance and harmony and eternity. The card’s symbolism is all about the secret of eternal life and how we can find a part of it in our lifetime. The shell fishes are symbols of mindless destruction, always present in our universe. A Memento Mori that everything has an end, even eternity.

I use analogue collage as a mean of artistic expression, so there was a lot of cut and paste. The original photos I used I found on-line, mainly from advertisements of tools, kitchen equipment, camera lenses etc., along with some space photos from NASA.

Card Meaning

A winged figure stands in the far reaches of space. Androgynous, it is a massive peace-keeper, and all around are space slugs, some choking a nearby planet. But this figure does not react. Smaller planets orbit around it, as though it was a sun in their galaxy. They pass through its hands without obstruction.

When this card appears in a reading, it’s time for finding common ground and not taking risks. Personally, this is a time for moderation and avoiding excesses – in both day to day life, and your dealings with others. Be respectful, diplomatic and look for opportunities to restore harmony to the situation. Make sure you understand all the elements at work before making decisions.

Featured Card of the Day – Knight of Wands – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Artist:  Jeremias Colmenares

Website:  http://www.jeremiascolmenares.blog.fc2.com

Artist Interpretation

The Knight of Wands card tells us about a young adventurer, full of energy, vitality and impetus, with a determined spirit. So, I had an idea based on a space traveler, which has an armor with technological applications. Our knight mounts an alien dragon; the dragon represents the fire, the corresponding element of the wands. I decided to work on a color palette with very bright and warm tones, based also on the fire element. The dragon is crowned with an antler, as a reference of Aries, one of the zodiac sign related to this card. To reinforce the sci-fi theme in the illustration, I created a background full of planets, constellations, stars, etc. I’m very fortunate working on a card with which I identified with in many different aspects, especially in its positive vibes.

Card Meaning

When this card appears in a reading, it is a fiery torch, lighting a fire under you, and telling you (in no uncertain terms) to change it up a bit…you’re stuck in a bit of a rut and this card appears to tempt you to try something new and daring. Something that will infuse you with energy and help you get moving. Yes, you should think it through, but don’t get bogged down in making too many plans. Instead, allow your conviction and passion to guide you…just don’t let confidence turn to arrogance. And make sure that your enthusiasm and desire don’t turn into frustration and anger at the first hurdle – reign in your temper.

The Knight of Wands can represent a passionate, imaginative figure currently in your life, or coming into it soon. They are charismatic and daring, offering you a chance of adventure, an opportunity to say “to hell with it” and take a few risks. We’re usually attracted to them, like a moth to a flame…enjoy it, but don’t get burnt!

Featured Card of the Day – 8 of Cups – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Posted on Updated on

Artist:  Zindy S. D. Nielsen

Website:  http://www.zindy-zone.dk

Artist Interpretation

An image for when you are in between paths, struggling to let go, yet knowing there is more for you out there. Realizing you need to take that step, to grow as a person, focusing on your journey and becoming stronger.

I’ve illustrated this with a girl floating between her past and present into an unknown future. The vulnerable feeling of leaving the well-known, travelling into uncertainty. Not knowing what the future will bring for her, but she’s open to it, with the thought of there being more for her out there. She’s moving towards change, a new chapter in her life.

She’s reaching out and embracing her future, whatever it may bring her. She is in a very emotional state as she leaves her old life behind and starts her new one. Her journey has just begun…

Card Meaning

Tentative, but ready, a woman floats towards her future, moving from darkness to light, leaving her past behind her. It’ not an easy decision, her hair grips cups, stealing remnants of her past and trying to take them with her. But she accepts that it is a necessary path to take, the cups are starting to fall gently away from her as she travels on.

When this card appears in a reading, you already know what you have to do, you’re just not sure that you want to yet… So this card appears to give you a gentle nudge in the right direction. To remind you that instead of delaying and making excuses, you need to make the break and walk away. Showing you that a fresh start awaits you. If only you can face, and accept the truth that you’re currently shying away from. Even as it creeps up on you, and slinks its way into your mind and heart. You need to stop holding onto the past – once you’ve made the break, you will be better off.
