Compassion, discretion, love

Artist Interpretation

For me, the idea for my piece came together relatively quickly, though I did go through a few fairly different iterations before arriving at the final idea. The first few pieces were a bit more ethereal and probably just not “spacey” enough…and one was a bit too close to another card.

Finally though, I came up with the six armed creature. I always loved Edgar Rice Burroughs’ four armed Tharks of Mars, and that was probably in the back of my mind. The cup aspect was pretty obvious. I wanted it to appear as if she was capturing the whole universe, maybe remaking it, curating it, even healing it. Since it is not an actual piece in motion, it could be read as if she were almost birthing it as well…so it was a win-win!

The Card’s Message by Trish Sullivan

When this card appears in a reading, it is suggesting that compassion is sorely needed in this situation. Be mindful of the feelings of those around you, be sensitive, caring, and supportive. Try to react with a kind word, rather than a sharp retort when someone hurts or annoys you. Be the embodiment of the healing, patient aspects that you want to see more of this world. Lead by example.

Listen to your emotions and let them guide you, but remember not to be enslaved by them!

The Queen of Cups can signify someone you know, a kind, sensitive person who comes into even the most fraught situation, and can quickly understand how everyone feels, and act accordingly to soothe tempers and make you feel better. She is in absolute control of her emotions, so while the sentimental Page and Knight of Cups can snap, and be moody, she is always calm and forgiving, offering you an atmosphere of love acceptance.

Featured Card of the Day – The Magician – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Power of self, innovation, personal experience

Artist Interpretation

The Magician crouches over a floating table which is a piece of an obelisk full of stars. Along the broken edges are glowing alien primordial element symbols of alchemists in pure white and red light. A mental energy pulsates between its antennas over its head in the form of an eternity symbol. The Magicians belt is also an eternity symbol of an alien xenomorph-type snake biting its own tail. Behind the Magician is the planet Mercury that magician is associated with. Classic looking saucer ships seem to come from the planet, also are meant to convey the connection with Mercury. His right hand levitates a wand raised in front of the galaxy’s center, which is channeling power from the universe to his left hand pointing to the hologram of earth on the table to direct it to the physical plane.

The Card’s Message by Trish Sullivan

A powerful alien lord surveys a dais decked with the symbols of the Tarot suits, and a globe, representing his universal power and control. His spacesuit is white, illustrating that his motives are pure, his purpose is just. His scepter is raised, drawing energy directly from the cosmos, funneling it through himself to the items before him. This is his power to command, a force that he can channel however he sees fit.

When this card appears in a reading, it is reminding you that you already have everything that you need within you. Your knowledge and experience are more than enough – just keep your focus and unlock your potential. Keep your confidence and don’t let worry or doubt hold you back – YOU are all you need to power through.

Featured Card of the Day – 7 of Wands – 78 Tarot Astral ~ Tarot in Space

Defense, courage, tenacity

Artist Interpretation

Seven of Wands, fighting for your right to be on top, to defend your position–whatever it may be. Usually depicted as a man, I thought this year was fitting to depict a woman. Standing above the other planet wands I have a moon goddess with a universe being created in her hands–not fully developed because it will be up to you…it can fully develop or fall apart depending on your efforts. Fighting for her right to be on top, she shows courage while defending herself. Her dress fades into the stars and galaxies behind her, representing the struggle to remain on top. You will have to have determination and fight to stay relevant, as well as courage and belief in yourself.

The Card’s Message by Trish Sullivan

When this card appears in a reading, there’s no need to tell you that you’re on the defensive…you’re already well aware, and feeling the pressure from all sides. But the card’s message is to hang in there. You will get through this, come what may.

Ask yourself, is this issue worth fighting for? Does it matter so much to you that you are willing to take a stand, with no thought of what the personal cost may be? If so, then stand firm, be prepared, draw upon the reserves of tenacity and confidence within you, and fight like hell for what’s right.

But if it’s not an issue worth fighting for, if the fight will cause more problems in the long term than it will solve? Then it is time to just accept the possibility that it is just one of those days. That this is one more challenge on your journey to your dreams, and that you can get past this and move on to more important things, remembering that this will pass in time.

Embracing feelings, inspiration, getting creative

Artist Interpretation

A space kitty sits alone on a quiet crater filled planet, and as stars light up the night sky, the sound of ships can be heard flying overhead. All of a sudden another sound… more quiet then the ships… something is approaching! A flying golden cup appears! To the cat’s surprise, up pops a messenger of sorts which, unexpectedly seems to be speaking to the space kitty, bringing a feeling of inspiration.

The Card’s Message by Trish Sullivan

When this card appears in a reading, it is advising you to embrace your inner child and get back to the sentimentality of youth, before life got in the way and brought cynicism to your soul. Don’t just listen to your heart, but let it run away with you!

Embrace an opportunity to see the world in all its beauty, wonder at the shape of a cloud and let your imagination take over for a short while. Find time to appreciate life as a miracle that pulls at your heartstrings and fills your eyes with tears. Enjoy the chance to truly feel, without worries and lists of endless chores pulling you away. Do something fun that makes you laugh until you cry! Shake free of the restrictions and detachment that come with adulthood.

The Page of Cups can represent a young person currently in your life, or someone young at heart who is coming into your life soon. Someone who brings you opportunities for love and emotion, who moves you and encourages you to get out in nature and go with your gut. To accept your sensitivity and appreciate your feelings, experience the world with your heart open to each and every emotion that it provokes.

But be aware that with heightened emotion, and an open heart, you’re in a position to feel more pain, too.

Friendship, celebration, joy

Artist Interpretation

The Three of Cups is a card of celebration…it’s the party card.

I thought about how this might look with an astral theme. Color. Glitter. Organic swirls. Darkness overhead with the stars in the sky.

Three nude maidens with golden chalices commiserating with each other, and putting the world to rights in this beautiful other world with a holographic crescent moon above. The star tattoos on each of their bodies signifying the bond between them.

The Card’s Message by Trish Sullivan

When this card appears in a reading, it’s time for friendship! Spend time with your tribe. Revel in the love and laughter that flows between you. Indulge in the raucous teasing and caring jokes that only friendships like these can bring. Where even sharp words are delivered with love and respect. Celebrate that feeling, the support and warmth of true confidantes.

Feel free to be yourself, knowing that you are secure and loved, and never judged. Gripe about your boss, a work mate who has gotten on your nerves. A friend who has unwittingly hurt and offended you. Vent your frustrations in safety, knowing and trusting that these friends will never take your words out of context, or use them to hurt you. Who understand that a few moments bluster is all you need to get the negativity out, to release pressure before you explode, and that this is all you need.

In this world where friends are often far away, reach out to loved ones you’ve not spoken to in a while, appreciating that even after weeks, your conversation starts up as though you’ve never been apart.

Reflection, sacrifice, isolation

Artist Interpretation

In my interpretation, an astronaut hangs from the tangled life-line of his space ship. He floats, helpless, with a sense of peril (the skull in the helmet), but also with a feeling of serenity (expressed by the soft color scheme) as he floats in zero gravity in the perfect silence of space.

A hidden message lies in the name tag on his chest, reading BRAHIC. An homage to astronomer André Brahic, who died in 2016. One of this time’s most respected minds, he was an unforgettable teacher and enthusiastic Science popularizer. But the core reason why he belongs in this card is that we owe him the discovery of Neptune’s rings.

The Card’s Message by Trish Sullivan

An astronaut hangs upside down, suspended in space, by the life-line that connects him to his space ship. His life is potentially in the balance – the echo of a skull appears on his helmet, but he does not thrash or kick. He does not grab onto the life-line and pull himself towards safety, he seems at ease with his predicament. What can he see from his position? We cannot know without altering our viewpoint to match his.

When this card appears in a reading, it is indicating that you need to open your mind and let go. You can’t always find the best solution by keeping a tight control on the situation. Walk away, get a bit of space. Allow yourself to see a larger picture, rather than give yourself tunnel vision. Right now, you need to consider all the points of view, and change your perspective, even make sacrifices, in order to achieve your long term goals.

Nostalgia, sentimentality, innocence

Artist Interpretation

For the astral theme, I chose to portray my newest regular character, Baby Moon, along with myself as an ancient alien, representative of memories. Old memories are being accessed by the moon, and as the old wise moon moves past, he stops to look over his back/shoulder and relive a memory of him as a kid, being presented with one of the cups of flowers that would help pave the way in his life. The ancient alien is the passer of the cups, a memory record and Egypt was the first place where ancient people used to teleport to and from other parts of the world through the Giza pyramid. Wise moon was reliving old good nostalgic memories as he passed through “town” and onto the rest of his life, moving on from old times to new. Can you spot the four crystals in the artwork? A turquoise on the Chelle-Alien’s necklace, an aquamarine in Kid Moon’s hand, two behind him on the ground (amethyst and citrine).

The Card’s Message by Trish Sullivan

When this card appears in a reading, it is an opportunity to take a stroll down memory lane – look through some old photos, indulge in some memories, and revisit your youthful innocence. Take the opportunity to see how far you’ve come, what qualities you’ve kept, and which you’ve maybe left behind. Let this exercise be a chance for you to reclaim some of the facets of your personality that you’ve lost to time, the innocent joy you have felt in your past.

While you’re indulging in nostalgia, spend some time remembering gentler times, picking through less obvious, but possibly more meaningful memories. Focus on the smaller gestures of love and generosity that you’ve experienced, and indulged in over the years, letting you appreciate and remember the goodness that exists in the world. Let your history inspire your future.
