Artist’s Statement

“Three beautiful circus performers are celebrating each other as well as their successes. I wanted to convey pure joy as they laugh with abandon. An abundance of food, wine and flowers surround them and they are indulging. Spirits are high and a feeling of harmony and familiar comfort unites them. Clearly there are no feelings of restraint or regret here. It is party time! I imagine this taking place after hours once all the spectators go home. My personal inspiration for this scene comes from my days as a bartender in NYC. Once my shift was over and the last of the drunks went home it was OUR turn to party. That was when my fellow night club co-workers and I could have a few drinks, count our money and laugh about the night’s events. The circus theme lends itself perfectly to this memory for me. Many of those nights were wild and very much like a carnival, including all the beautiful performers as well as the entire freak show!”

Card Meaning

Three circus acrobats celebrate a successful show in their dressing room with a banquet of popcorn, toffee apples and other sweet treats. The contortionist raises a cup in salute of her colleagues, but with her feet rater than her hands. Laughter rings out as high spirits reign – her friends are amused, but their hilarity is met with joy, rather than resentment.

This card reminds us what can be achieved through friendship – heartbreak decreased, sorrow dissolved, accomplishments celebrated and joy created. It prompts us to spend time with family and friends, enjoying the feeling of companionship, and to bask in the warmth it brings.
