Artist’s Statement

“The Two of Cups is the connection between two souls – the beginning of something new and beautiful. The Lion representing the passion, fire and strength, and the dark and light snakes representing the balance between dark and light. I love this card, as it has a lot of deep meaning. It’s about balance and respect, the beauty in relationships, whether it be friends, family or partners. I’ve chosen to create my card showing the connection between a man and woman a relationship of power, strength, harmony, beauty and respect.”

Card Meaning

Two young carnival clowns stand, as if in a dream, clinking glasses and celebrating their merger. Two streams of water flow into their cups from a leonine caduceus, a symbol of negotiation – the separation of energies join again in their union. Black and white snakes that form the caduceus illustrate balance, the lion’s head represents passion and power. Whether they are beginning a romantic relationship, or cementing a newprofessional collaboration is unclear, but everything about them screams harmony. Even their face makeup is in perfect symmetry.

When two become one, everything is possible, and this is illustrated perfectly in the Two of Cups. The card is a positive one, full of hope, harmony and energy, suggestive of a partnership, nurturing and supportive, creating a formidable team.
