Artist Interpretation

The Devil is all about Addiction, choosing one path or another. It is the ability to cut the cord to things that no longer provide you with air. I assign every single card in this deck except my own, which is chosen by Kayti Welsh, the founder of 78 Tarot. She personally chose this card for me to represent, and asked I make it a badass female with big ass boobs (direct quote). So naturally, I modeled it after myself! This is a very personal painting, and it has a lot to do with my own addictions I am trying to cut the cord to.

Card Meaning

Against a futuristic sci-fi grid, floats a crazed devil, her hair wildly flowing around her, like flames in the darkness. Pills and temptations float through space around her. Her tethers to her ship are broken, sparking nearby – her life-lines now are just another danger to her well-being. Two pipes remain, but these are not life-lines that will save her…instead, they reach outward to astronauts that are sucking her own life force. Both reach for her, one drowning in his own helmet, as green liquid fills it.

When this card appears in a reading, it is a warning against those crutches that we reach for in worrying times. Those temptations and short cuts that are more harmful than helpful. It’s time to watch out for unhealthier aspects of yourself shining through – behaviors that could become obsessions, or addictions. Time to avoid getting caught up in society’s temptations, and being taken in by the short term fix, rather than taking healthy, positive steps to improve the situation.
