Artist Interpretation

The devil in the image of a half-man and half-bull stands in a flaming magic circle with a pentagram. He tempests and seems is about to break the chains that restrain him. He is Galla, a demon, closest to the devil image of the Babylonian mythology.

Among the devils and evil spirits of Babylon, the Galla (Gallu) or bull demon, had specific characteristics of a half- humans and half-bull. That horrible creature roamed the streets of Babylon at nights, hiding in dark corners and deserted places and searching for victims. In Sumerian “Galla” meant “tempest.”

Card Meaning

The Devil represents a blind and tempest force, and a limited belief of existence only in the material world. If you prefer to serve him, you will be lost because his way is a way of darkness where demonic powers prevail, creating confusion and disorder. The Devil is a skillful seducer and manipulator, tempting and persuading you to follow the ignorant path of materialism. Following the Devil, you choose the dark side of the material world: hedonism, all kinds of addiction and self-indulgence, as well as violence. Be aware of self-destruction during this path. You are free whether to succumb to the Devil who manipulates others and uses their weaknesses for own goals, or you resist egotistic impulses and basic instincts.
