THE CARD’S STORY BY: HOLLY BROXSON

Coyote has taken something and snuck off on his own. What is he up to? Looks like he is leaving a camp of some sort. The two figures in the background are looking for him, or maybe they have already spotted him. We can see that Coyote is up to something, as he looks around. In some stories Coyote is known for being a trickster and a thief, in others he is helpful. This card definitely has an element of sneakiness and thievery. It can be a card about betrayal or about facing problems in secret, away from others so you can move forward. The card can also pertain to relationships and possible betrayal. When combined with other cards in a reading, the meaning of the 7 of Swords becomes more defined.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

Shifty coyote…looking back at the stolen swords they’ve dropped, and not looking at what may be right in front of them…not the cleverest decision, seeing as the humans in camp have raised the alarm and even now seem to be signaling to people coming this way! Keep a watchful eye about you – you’re in danger of being deceived, and not necessarily by other people. Make sure that you’re not lying to yourself about anything, or anyone else. No matter how tempting it may be to hide away, and deceive, you will be found out. It’s better to face the truth now, than it come back and bite you later. In your dealings with other people – make sure you check your facts on any important issues!

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: COYOTE

The Coyote is a popular creature within Native American mythology, although tales differ within the different cultures. It is oft en a male character, anthropomorphised, but displaying much of the cunning and stealth of the animal. In some legends this is put to good use as he aids humans, but in many he is a trickster, who cannot truly be trusted. Not necessarily evil, he is certainly shift y, often arrogant and careless, even selfish – these traits made us feel that he would be a fitting character for this card.
