THE CARD’S STORY BY: DELPHINE LEVESQUE DEMERS
As we go through life we collect a variety of views, philosophies, opinions, and tools to live our life – some become outdated, some remain relevant. The Hermit reminds us to pull back, time to time, and review those elements of us to decide what becomes our own personal path/truth. I have illustrated the Hermit as a Vampire, solitary in nature, guiding his own way through the dark, friend to himself because in the end… who else will he be stuck with longer? The further he pushes into that darkness, the more important that personal light will become. FIND YOUR GLOW!
THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN
The Vampire has chosen to strike out on his own and live a solitary existence. Walking away from the clamour of his bat companions, all he needs is his lantern and staff – symbols of his wisdom and power over himself. You’ve achieved as much as you can where you are, so now it’s time to evaluate what you really want, and how best to achieve it. Get away from external distractions, even social media, and find a way to be on your own. Or unplug and create a place of peace and solitude, where you can dig in, and indulge in some contemplation and reflection. No matter how busy you may be, make the time.
MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: VAMPIRE
Vampires exist in the folklore of many cultures and are possibly one of the most popular supernatural beings within literature and legend. They are undead, and feed off the life essence of the living, usually by drinking blood. According to most legends they cannot be in the sun, or they will be burned. By necessity, this means that vampires live a fairly distant, nocturnal existence, resulting in an introspective, brooding character that would make a perfect Mythical Hermit.
