THE CARD’S STORY BY: MONIKA HOLLOWAY

Rusalka is gazing at the reader, cradling an ornate cup made out of a seashell. Her vividly red hair is floating behind her, accentuating her otherworldly beauty. There is nothing wrong with being sentimental, she seems to say, with a delicate smile dancing at the edge of her lips. Allow yourself to be guided by your feelings, your intuition. Be creative and stay curious. Your inner child is still there, buried deep inside your soul. It wants you to laugh, to play, create beautiful things. Let it out, let it live. Don’t wait until it’s too late.

THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN

The Rusalka gazes in curiosity at us from deep under the sea, holding tight to an ornate seashell cup. She is young, not initiated into our ways, innocent of anything other than her oceanic world. Look at things with the eyes of a child. See the world in all its wonder, give yourself permission to be emotional. Let it inspire your imagination, take some time for fun, free of the cynicism of adulthood that usually weighs us down. Go into situations today with compassion and understanding. The Page of Cups can represent a person near you who is young at heart, or coming into your life soon, who moves you and encourages you to go with your gut. Who encourages you to experience the world with your heart open to emotions within.

MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: RUSALKA, WATER NYMPH

A water nymph of the Slavic traditions, the Rusalka is oft en mistaken for the mermaid of other cultures and mythologies. In the origins of their myth, they were benevolent water spirits who bore life-giving waters to the crops of the Slavic folk and were oft en thought of as creatures of fertility and growth. Some believed that the Rusalka could not fully emerge from the water to which they were bound, though this changes in some of the tales. Th e innocent, joyful nature of the Rusalka made them ideal representations of this card.
