MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: RUSALKA, WATER NYMPH
A water nymph of the Slavic traditions, the Rusalka is oft en mistaken for the mermaid of other cultures and mythologies. In the origins of their myth, they were benevolent water spirits who bore life-giving waters to the crops of the Slavic folk and were oft en thought of as creatures of fertility and growth. Some believed that the Rusalka could not fully emerge from the water to which they were bound, though this changes in some of the tales. Th e innocent, joyful nature of the Rusalka made them ideal representations of this card.
