THE CARD’S STORY BY: SCOTT HOLLOWAY
For the Mythical themed tarot deck I had the Tower Card, so I decided to relate my image with the Tower of Babel. To emphasize the height of the tower, I wanted to show a low landscape, with the tower built on the highest point. The landscape is cracking open and drifting apart – this symbolizes the drifting of groups of people. The clouds symbolize heaven, and I placed a cloud in front of the tower depicting how the tower was reaching the heavens.
THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN
The tower is on fire, the conflagration spiraling out of control. The only windows are all aflame and there are no routes for escape. It is only a matter of time before the fire claims it fully, destroying it from within. Something is rotten – you know this to be true, but you’ve been ignoring it anyway. But you can’t hide from it forever, your wake-up call is coming. It’s time to open your eyes and finally accept the harsh truth that your safe, secure existence is false. But how will you react? Will you dig your head further into the sand? Or will you understand that this is for the best and face it? Let this revelation liberate you, freeing you to rebuild something that WILL last.
MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: TOWER OF BABEL
The Tower of Babel was an amazing structure, a city and tower constructed to be high enough to reach heaven. It was built by people who survived the Great Flood, a way of keeping humanity together, working in harmony to achieve a common goal. But God confounds the inhabitants, ensuring that they do not speak the same language, separating nations and causing discord. It is a punishment, but the crime is not explained exactly. Th ere is obviously something wrong with the tower, or city, which earns God’s wrath in this legend, forcing the inhabitants to rethink, and giving us a model example of a Mythical Tower.
