Burden, oppression, stress, arduous tasks
“Ten of Wands is all about burden. So I created my card based on the old “freak” shows at the carnival – she is a tattooed and pierced lady, which being seen as a freak because of this is a burden to her. The Ten of Wands are depicted in the form of long bar piercings on her forearms.”
The look of stress on this young performer’s face is clear to see. Piercings cover her, proud reminders of the time she has spent working with the carnival, but the weight of the wands within her skin only help to drag her down. Flowers adorn her arms, coiling up to her hands from below – this is her harvest. Her goal was always to run away and join the circus, but she has worked so hard to get there that her dreams now seem like nightmares.”
This card symbolizes feeling that you may have bitten off more than you can chew – you’ve worked incredibly hard to get this far, the end of your journey is now right before you, but so are the commitments that this brings, the responsibility to continue.
