Apathy, introspection, distraction
Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
THE CARD’S STORY BY: REGAN KUBECEK
I found the card spoke to me of disconnect and removing one’s self from opportunity and possibility. I saw a solitary figure, deep in thought and lost in their own space and familiar surroundings. But not looking beyond. They seemed to be focused intently on inward concerns and struggles. Becoming caught up in routine and dissatisfied with their lot. All these are essentially true of the four of cups. Yet looking deeper the message is not so black and white, it is not all about being stubborn or self-absorbed. It is also about reflection and taking time to reevaluate your situation. To take the time to see all the other things on offer, to be mindful and yes careful. But to also look beyond yourself and consider so much more.
THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN
The Selkie sits amongst the waves and sea shells as the water crashes against the distant shore. She cannot focus, she is distracted and dissatisfied, searching for happiness within. You’re in danger of withdrawing too much into yourself – introspection can be very positive and grounding, but there can be too much of a good thing! Yes, you need to look inward & work things out, ignoring unnecessary distractions, but don’t lose sight of what’s right in front of you. Take some time by yourself, for reflection, to rebalance and reconnect to your emotions and spirit, and decide what you want to do. Then shake yourself free, ready to act, energized and enthused!
MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: SELKIE
Legends of the Selkie come originally from Scotland, but go as far afi eld as the Faroe Islands. Te Selkie were believed to be beautiful men and women who lived as seals when in the sea. Should they come ashore they could remove their skin and walk as humans on the land. It was said that if a female Selkie’s skin was stolen, then she would be forced to live as the wife of the man who had taken it. These stories usually have a tragic ending, with the woman finding her skin and returning to the seas and leaving loved ones behind, or being trapped on land, forever longing for a home to which they can never return. The constant seeking happiness of a land-bound Selkie represents a fi tting parallel to this card.
