THE CARD’S STORY BY: NATASJA VAN GESTEL
To me, he is like a teenager, giving all when infatuated with something, but also fickle. He’s a rebel, always exploring boundaries; he loves and mourns what he can’t have with an incredibly consuming energy. This card drew some striking parallels with my own life while working on it. I chose Xochipilli, Aztec god of song, dance and love. He promotes love across all genders, which drew me to him; what other god could represent the Knight’s open nature?
THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN
Xochipilli stands, wishing, loving, and yearning. Love is torture, love is life, love is everything. There is so much beauty and sensuality round him, he wants to dive straight in, but where to start? Forget practicality and sensibility, if only for a while. Let yourself get swept up in the moment and dive into your emotions, look at the world with an open heart and embrace that moment when its beauty moves you to tears. See beyond the mundane, the tragedies and responsibilities that make your soul grey, and give your heart the reins! The Knight of Cups can represent a sensitive, imaginative person in your life. Romantic, charming and sometimes dramatic, they bring a world of possibilities with them, a chance to walk a different path for a time.
MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: XOCHIPILLI
Xochipilli was known as the prince of flowers in Aztec, or Mesoamerican mythology, a god of the arts, of beauty and dance, games and song – of joyful, creative ways to celebrate life! A youthful character, legends tell of a fondness for mind-altering substances…in so many ways, Xochipilli was the first flower child. As an inclusive, free-spirit who seems to have been in love with love itself, he makes a perfect Knight of Cups!
