THE CARD’S STORY BY: JODI HORNE
In Greek mythology, the Minotaur was a creature created by the coupling of the Cretan Bull and Pasiphae as a punishment to King Minos by Poseidon. I chose the Minotaur to represent my card, the Seven of Swords, because of his struggle to retain his humanity despite being regarded as a beast and cursed to crave only human flesh. The element of fire is captured in the colors of the sunset and the torches of the angry mob.
THE CARD’S MESSAGE BY TRISH SULLIVAN
A scared mob is whipped up into a frenzy. They will not allow any more of their maidens to be sacrificed to the Minotaur, and stand ready to attack the monster before them. But he sought none of this – his need for human flesh a necessity to survive, as a cursed creature, a punishment locked away in the Labyrinth. It is his home and he will defend it, and himself… Get ready for a day when you feel as though everything is going wrong, and everyone is against you. You’re being challenged…and how! Don’t bow to it, but instead, draw on your reserves of tenacity and stand your ground. Start thinking creatively, work out new ways to jump the hurdles before you, facing this as just one more trial to beat. You can do it!
MYTHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: MINOTAUR
The Minotaur is a monster of Greek mythology, a creature created to punish a human – Minos had stolen a bull from Poseidon, so the angry god made Pasiphae, his wife, fall in love with it. Th e resulting child was half bull, half human, with a need for human flesh. Minos locked the Minotaur away in a labyrinth, sacrificing village folk to sate his hunger, and he was eventually killed by Theseus. Th e reviled nature of the Minotaur is a pathetic story of constant defence, when viewed from his perspective…so he made an appropriate choice for this card!
